I highly doubt Bliz is doing it because of their reputation. Noone bitched when AO cost 55 dollars at release. Noone bitched when BG2 cost like 60 bucks at release.

Germany has a goverment agency that decides what games 'endanger youth'. Those games are put onto the so-called 'index'. All games that are on that index may not be openly sold, they may only be sold at direct customer request(you may not have a box on display for example), and only if the customer proves that he is 18+. It is also forbidden to talk about such materials in newspapers/magazines/whatever.
Seeing as anything that contains blood/gore/sex in any amount is put onto the index, companies censor the german versions of their games (and have some international versions auto-censor themselves if they detect a German OS or a system clock set to GMT +1 Time) to avoid loosing sales. German Red Alert had robots instead of soldiers for example, german carmageddon had bots instead of humans, GTA 3 automatically disables blood and death sounds if you install it in Germany (or Austria for that matter, although there are no such laws here).
This is why someone who wants to run over small pixlated soldiers with tanks in German-speaking Europe has to either warez Games, or pay horrendous import fees, set their system clocks nine hours back, change their language settings and download bloodpatches of witch 60% don't even work properly.
