Waves both of her hands into the air

hey!

I can tell you about homeschooling.

And what I say is right. How do I know?

Because I'm living it.

I am homeschooling. I think it's an amazing oppurtunity for the students who are modivated, and WANT to learn more then you do at school. I left in December, because I kept getting sick, (this was right before they figured out I had asthma), and because the school kept saying I was lying, even though I was seeing my doctor 3 and 4 times a month.

I live in Louisville, OH. IN English, parts of the bible were required reading, for thier literary value, and yet no other faith's books were. The bible was also presented as complete non-fiction. We later looked at Indian folklore which, "obviously", was portrayed as myth. Me, having a BRAIN, knew that this was not good and not right in any way, shape, or form, protested. I heard: "But the students will understand it better this way."

Right now, my OWN curriclum, which I wrote, is reading the following novels:

The Glass Menagerie, The Great Gatsby, Uncle Tom's Cabin, The Fountainhead, Dante's Inferno, Call of the Wild, Of Mice and Men, and 3 other books of my choosing. That's just for school.

I am also teaching myself Theoretical Chemistry, Algerba 2/Trig, US history, and I am involved in a Mideavel recreation group, so I am reading the History of the Arab World... in my spare time.

In school, I went, and sat thier while the teacher would yell at the people for not doing thier homework, and listen to Mr. Jentes explain for the FIFTH TIME that we did NOT win the Alamo.

I now have a steady job, and I am learning more now then I did before, in years of public school.

But I also know kids who were homeschooled, and failed miserably, because they just saw that they were now free from all school.

My homeschooling is NOT religous based. I do not attend church, my parents don't go to church. Yes, some is because of religion. But the norm is not. The norm is mostly poeple who don't want to "run thier kids thorugh the system".

EDIT: It's 1 AM, and my typing skillz r 1377 indeed

Do you want to know the main reason why I continue to go to private schools?

My friends.

I've lost all contact with my public school friends. Most of my friends from McCallie like 30-45 minutes from my house. In short, I would lose all my friends.

Now to apply...

Homeschooling kills the entire "learn to live and work with all kinds of people" thing. Ya know... Some school communities are obviously WORSE than none at all, but we need not discuss that.

I'm just saying... How the hell do you make new friends at that age without school? Maybe you'll get to know a few kids in your neighborhood... but I just don't think that Homeschooling is some type of all-encompassing solution...

There are so many ways to rip the above argument apart. It's late and I really didn't think about what I wrote. Don't expect me to stand behind that opinion...

How do I make friends? Guess what? I got a job.

I have made more friends in the 3 months I have een working then I made in 2 years of high school. I had NOTHING in common with the poeple i went to high school with. I had MAYBE 4 friends I can think of.

You want to talk about delaing with shity people and learning about it in school? Try dealing with people who wash thier hands when they touch you. Try dealing with people throwing iceballs wrapped around ROCKS at you.

Then tell me the use of public schools.

No, homeschooling isn't for everyone. Hwoever, public school isn't for everyone either. High school and middle school were some of the worse times of y life. That's WHY I failed my sophmore year... I was so depressed I was giving myself ulcers.

when you child is very, very small, you do need to do something for them to meet people. but if you are starting homeschooling late, it's not an issue, if you get a job. At least, for me.
