There there, don't listen to that mean person. He's just jealous.
ELVES DO EXIST! *points at his ears* They're pointy, see! THBBBBBBBBBT!
No.
I'm sorry, but I just don't believe in the existance of a blood sucking dead guy that turns into a solar-powered pork rind at daybreak.
I like my shirt that says "Vampires dont exsist, grow up".
Edit: Yes, I drink blood. Blood is good. When I get a cut or something, I will try and clean it out with my mouth, but vampires still dont exsist [ 02-08-2002: Message edited by: First Dragon ].

Mr. Parcelan had this to say about Optimus Prime:
I believe in stupid, angst-filled Gothic wannabe vampires.
Have to say I agree with Parce. Anne Rice and White Wolf have a lot to answer for. All this tragically-hip, vampire-wannabe-blood doll crap comes from their stuff. All of it comes from the warped version of vampires Bram Stoker presented, and a lot of romanticized idiocy.
Look at classic vampire legends. There isn't a damned thing romantic or desirable about being a vampire. And it really annoys me for some reason that people glorify monsters like that. If I play a vampire character (and I have), then they're not these Louis or Lestat wannabes. Just like if I play a werewolf I don't play them to be some treehugging hippy superhero.
They're monsters, plain and simple. They've always been monsters, and always will be monsters. The minute you can't tell the difference between good and evil is the moment you're screwed in the head morally and ethically.
Vampires represent the seductive side of evil. There's something attractive, it would seem, about living forever and never going out of style. And all it costs you is your soul. To feed your ongoing life, all you have to do is damn yourself by murdering others. Sure...kill evil people. Kill animals. All a cop out. You're not doing it for some greater moral purpose. You're doing it to continue your own corrupt existence. It's a classic approach to the "what would you sell your soul for?" question. Vampires may be attractive...but they are, at their core, nothing but attractive monsters.
Werewolves are the bestial monsters. The fear mankind has of turning into something bestial and primitive. True, there are many cultures that revere the idea of being one with animal spirits, but that's not classic lycanthropy. Not the sort of European werewolf idea we're all used to.
Things like zombies are the evil of desecration. The horrid cthulhu-esque type evil is the evil of the unknown.
So do I think vampires are real? No. I think that all vampires are is a representation of humanity's weakness to seductive evil. A representation, as it were, of humanity's willingness to choose comfort and vanity over honesty and substance.

Talera is technically a good vampire, but as I recall, prior to meeting Trevor she'd been driven to do some nasty things in the past.

This group of kids from I believe New Orleans, anyways, they accually just enveloped themselves in this White Wolf, Vampire game they played. I mean just, dressed like their chars and even would only answer to their in game names.
What happened was, they killed and drank the blood of one of the groups parents in a "ritual scarafice" and then broke into a pound and mutilated the dogs.
Like I said, it sounds Urban Legends material. But I did read it in a newspaper. *shrugs* But ya'll know how reliable the media is here. I'll take BBC over the 10 O'clock news any day
If you've ever read any books by LJ Smith, I think the series is called the Dark Side, or something, I agree with a lot of her notions there.
I would write a more detailed essay on this... but I'm lazy. Who knows, I might do it tomorrow.

That didn't have to do with Vampire: The Masquerade. Trust me, it's a very widely investigated story... There's a very good HBO Documentary (no, not one of the HBO Historic Movies that they call documentaries, it's actually a documentary) on it.
And Deth, if you want, the tragically-hip thing was more of a product of Seattle Grunge and the Pearl-Jam-and-Nirvana bands. And if people want to play these games, then damnit, you have no right to call them idiots (or call me an idiot, I suppose).
It's not about being a Louis or Lestat wannabe (and actually, most of the characters aren't anything like that at all. And nobody is forced or even urged to be Louis or Lestat wannabes in WoD).
It's not about being a treehugging hippy superhero. That's merely something you can choose to be. You can choose to be whatever you like, pretty much (Well, being gods and stuff would kinda defeat the purpose, but within reason, yes, anything).
The entire reoccurring theme of the WoD games is of dreams deferred, things lost, and internal conflict on par or (in some cases) superceding external conflict.
You really greatly simplify WhiteWolf and break it down to it's base.
It's just as easy to turn Dungeons & Dragons into a game of silly, repetitive adventuring for loot and levels with campy drama and lame conflicts in between.
(Don't get me wrong, I love D&D, I'm just making an example)
And as for the "seductive evil," that's a factor, yes, but it's far from the key of the game. It's an aspect of the Book of Genesis, to.
At any rate, what I'm trying to say is, I think your views are quite extreme, and your post only scratches the surface in some parts, and completely misses in other parts.
Any volunteers?
Wait... Hmm...

To me it seems that you are quite quick to think that Deth was making a broad blanket statement that would include you. Deth never stated that anyone that played those games are idiots. He blamed Anne Rice and White Wolf for a lot of the current 'vampyre wannabe types'. You focused in on a single part hard enough to blot everything else out. [Church Lady]How Conveeeeeeeenient.[/Church Lady]
You have to be in England if you are in London, but you don't have to be in London if you are in England.
Next, you go on and play 'Pass The Blame' onto a musical revolution which disappeared from the mainstream back in the '94 area. Seattle Grunge was often more punkish than depressed. Listen to 'About A Girl' and tell me that is a depressed song. Listen to 'Drain You' and tell me that is a depressed song. Listen to almost anything from Yield and tell me it is depressing!
"How dare you insult me and my normal friends! In retaliation, I shall now insult an independent third party of normal people. Aren't I clever?"
You want depressing, go buy yourself a fuckin' Depeche Mode album.
Remember, you're overreacting about a statement which didn't include you or about 90% of people that you thought it did. This led to you insulting more people in a quite hypocritical manner.

Like I said, I've had this discussion before, and he (Deth) has gone on to make several remarks about how it produces awful Roleplaying and stupid storylines, about how you can't "win," and how virtually everyone who plays it is [paraphrase]one of those Angsty Goth poser teenagers.[/paraphrase]
I'm not trying to flame Deth here. I like him, he's a great guy, and very intelligent. But (you knew there had to be that in there), I strongly disagree with his statements regarding WhiteWolf.
I was commenting on the vampire-goth society.

My gripes about White Wolf and roleplaying are a second argument altogether. I can get into a Maradon-style bitch session about WoD and roleplay woes, but that's not hte point of this thread.
Interesting, in my opinion the WoD has one of the best story backgrounds and even their system beats most other RPGs with it's simplicity. =/

But that doesn't change the fact that WW's WoD is one of the better games in the big RPG jungle.
Now stop baiting me.

I'm playing (not counting the computer) RPGs for over 12 years now.
I have tested and played like ... uh, 30 or 50 different systems and I think the WoD is "better" because it is simply very different from many of the 'mainstream' RPGs everybody knows.
It's entertaining like hell (for a month or two, then you will need a break), and the game system is easily learned but complex enough to simulate a multitude of different characters.
But all in all it's just a question of your personal preference.
I myself for example, strongly dislike AD&D(D&D) and all 'level-based' systems.

He has, and believe me I know because I had to put up with them too, had to deal with a lot of angsty, wannabe vampire types. Not everyone I've ever known that played V:tM was like that, but the largest majority were. So he isn't saying all this out of his ass.
