The last time I got a port was from a guildmate, and that was only because he was going my way.
I have a good friend who's a pretty broke ranger. He wanted to go from LoIO to Everfrost to solo some mammoths. (?! I wont argue..) So I tell 'em to just go to the spires in the dreadlands, port up to the nexus, sit on the antonica pad for 15 mins, run across WK, run into halas, find the soulbinder, and start hunting.
I dunno, I've always just prided myself on being self sufficient. If someone hits me with an SoW, I /sigh, click it off, and proc Tboots instead. Why? Cos its bloody annoying to click off the icon later! Yes. I'm that lazy. I wouldnt even accept cleric buffs in a group unless they promised to keep it on a timer and redo it if/when it would wear. I hate asking for things like that. "Haste going. :/" is about the only buff I'll give status on. Everything else is just filler. ... Oh, And maybe clarity. But only because the cleric is getting it too.

Aego? CotP? Focus? Those are not worth keeping track of a few icons? You expect your group to keep track of your buffs for you? What if you cleric went 'Oh, sorry, no heals for j00, cause, y'know, I'm lazy like that. You wouldn't be lvl 52, that's for sure.

You missed the point. Maybe I worded it wrong, I'm sorry. What I mean is I dont ask for buffs unless they know that they will have the time/mana to keep it up. No point in having it up for a few seconds if I'm going to replace it anyway, yes? Saves the cleric mana so (s)he can heal me.
And I'm 52 because I solo'ed there. I'm quite proud of that.

Please dont take that the wrong way, but its true. People who have soloed to 50+ scare me. Even more so when they decide to start grouping in Seb, Velks, or Maiden's Eye, or start raiding.

Just because I soloed into 50+ doesnt mean I dont know how to pull a mob. When I say I soloed as a PALADIN, I'd better damn well know how to pull a mob. I wasnt soloing the entire time. I took a break at about 42 (This is Pre-kunark, mind you) and pwned Frenzy/sent for weeks. Not a single damned sash (Oh, Except for the ENCHANTER. ).
Odd that you say something about sebilis, though. I just got my sebilis key the day before yesterday.

People who have solo'd 90% of their eq time, dont last long in raiding guilds. It's pretty easy to tell who's spent time grouping and who hasnt.
But that is why most guilds have a probationary period before they accept a member

I havent had a guild since level 30 or so.
Besides, all you have to do on a "raid" is listen to the leader, assuming (s)he knows what their talking about.
Yeah, lets rush four FGs. Uh-huh. Sounds fun. /quit

Rushing 4 FGs != raid
Cripes...I can solo 4 FGs...
Im talking dragon encounters and dungeon type raids (trak/ssra/griegs/tov etc).
What it boils down to is, you learn absolutly nothing about how to play your class in group situations if you solo all the time.
I've been playing since august of 99. In that time, I've had plenty of experience in doing exactly what a paladin does. The above example was from when I was level 39, going on a naggy raid. The monk had died 5 times trying to get the four out of the room, and we were all patiently waiting. I drew the line when he said "RUSH", however. Needless to say, Naggy went down the next day. I was there to see it.
Like I said, I dont solo 100% of the time. Usually I group for about three hours, gain almost no money/loot/exp, leave, and the next day I go somewhere and solo to a new level, and see if that has any impact on what I do/can do.
I'm a tank in a raid. So what do I do? I assist. I check my target, then I assist again, and start attacking. I ask for haste if someone in my group has it, or put up my own if I dont, and above all I listen to the raid leader. You'd be surprised how many raids fail because some idiot thinks he can do whatever he wants.
Sorry if I sounded at all harsh in there.. but when someone says "Haha u suxx0r cos u dont know ur class cos u solo", it tends to get me peeved, cos I do know my class.
Sighs.

That is far from all you have to do on a high level raid. You have to know your job to the smallest detail. The leader isn't going to be able to hold your hand when a bad pull comes in and you have to be at the top of your game.
And what's wrong with rushing four Fire Giants? When I was camping Ragefire we killed Tranix, two Warriors and a Wizard with a 56 Cleric, 60 Rogue, 54 Paladin, and 57 Shaman.(But I guess you're right.. if all you do is listen to the leader there's no way you can survive a fight like that ) Most fun fight I've ever been in in EverQuest, aside from when me and two Monks tried to kill a black reaver. Which spawned into three more reavers and Lord Ghosk.

I do know my job, Snoota. Rushing four FGs pre-Kunark was NOT A GOOD IDEA, Especially when half the raid was under 48.
No, I've never been on a Kael, or hate, or PoM, or PoA, or SS, or ToV, or whathave you raid. I've killed Naggy, Vox, Phinny, and I've been in pre-buffed fear. I have an idea, but no, I dont know everything.

I had to tank three of the adds. Nobody had root memmed because we weren't ready for a pull. The Rogue went out to 'scout' and came back with four giants, heh. That was fun, though.

Actually, that wasnt a direct attack on you personally. More of a general observation given past experience.
You're a tank in a raid? If all the warriors are afk or dead maybe...but I hope letting the paladins tank isnt common practice.
On raids, we use the paladins for family sized DS's, and of course to take the DT's.
If there were no paladins, we'd have to feed the druids to the DT mobs!

I know Reynar. A lot of times I take generalized flames and turn them into some sick, perverted attack against me, and end up overreacting because of it.
Tank to me means you can go up to a mob, take more then a couple dozen hits, and beat on it for more then 20 damage every two minutes. No, I aint the main tank, but I'm up there, taunting/stunning/nuking away.
At least I made someone happy!

Felt really weird. Especially when I usually make a game out of getting my spell skills up. Like when I got my level 9 spells I ran around the newbie zone of Qeynos and was buffing up all the n00bs for the cost of two snake skins (which is the reagent for Snake Scales). That sort of thing.
