Using ~2500mana worth of Garrison's Superior Sundering yields 10500 points of damage, not counting possible crits.
I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piña coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

Well, if you're pulling mobs that hit for 200-300 a swipe, I doubt you're pulling too many of them. And if you can't pull indoors without speed, something is wrong

So, while it's handy, it's not necissary.

No, not necessary. But damn handy for pulling the pozs in Kael and other assured 2-5 pulls that you run across. Then again...you probably wouldn't know about that.

Uhh, it doesn't do 2500.

You wouldn't be able to do 13k damage critical if it only did 2500.

Mana Burn does an instant amount of damage EQUAL to your current amount of mana.

Go plug the numbers into a mana calc.

[Edit: Mana Burn may have a higher critical multiplier.]

I imagine the aggro from 40 seconds of non-stop casting, which you will rarely ever get, would be immense and cause your ass to be pounded into the ground.

Taken from Casterealms class ability list:

Mana Burn: (1 skill level - cost 5 skill points - Prerequisite: 3 skill levels of the Caster Archetype ability Mental Clarity) - This ability gives the Wizard the power to expend all of his remaining mana and do damage directly to the target. The damage done is greater than the value of the mana expended and can not be resisted by the target. The Refresh Timer for this ability is 144 minutes (two days of game time).

I have heard the ratio is as much as 4 to one. That means you would do 10k Damage instantly and it CAN NOT be resisted. Sounds pretty good in my book.

If it's only useable once every 2 days...what use is it at all?

Useless on large encounters. Sounds like a toy at best during day to day killing.

How about the refresh time for a cleric's Divine Resolution? That's 4320 minutes. 72 hours. Three full, real life days.

Did I say it was a piece of shit? Nope. I just said I could think of better uses for the mana. Don't put words into my mouth. I said that I saw Mana Burn as being inefficient.

Rowyl said the crit was ~13000 damage, right? As far as I've seen, a spell crit is damage*2. Therefore the normal mana burn for the guy should be like ~6000 damage, right? So ~2500mana to do ~6000 damage. Yeah, that's pretty crappy. If it crits, than it can do more than Garrison's Superior Sundering, but GSS can also crit, multple times. So there ya go.

I didn't say you called it a piece of shit for one, I said your making it sound like it is, saying it does a 1 for 1 ratio. And Crits aren't ALWAYS times 2, they have the potential to be. The key idea behind it is that its also unresistable Dens.

You're making it sound like it's a godsend. All I'm saying, is that the uses are few and far between. I imagine if it was up, and I figure I'll only get one shot at a mob, then yeah, I'd mana burn. That's pretty much the only time that I think Mana Burn would be used instead of a normal nuke, at least at level 60.

In addition to that, if I were to be fighting giants or dragons, I could use the bane spells to do 10000 points of unresistable damage, not counting crits.

Not every wizard can get Hsagra's Wrath and Porlos' Fury. They're quested, atleast Porlos' Fury is. Inwhich case you have to kill a Dragon to get an item. Every wizard with SoL can get Mana Burn.
