The sad part is, he isn't being sarcastic. He's always prophesized doom on every non-EQ MMORPG (even ones Verant employees themselves admire and compliment).
I haven't been wrong so far, have I?
Didn't think so. I know more about this than you might think because even though you have years experience playing games, so do I, and I also make them.
DAoC will carve out a nice niche for itself. It'll probably end up carrying a subscriber base about twice that of Asheron's Call, or close to UO, plenty for it to thrive and live on, but it's not going to displace EQ as the biggest MMOG. EQ has the depth of content and variety that DAoC doesn't have; EQ has personality; and more importantly, EQ has a playerbase with a strong community that has a large investment in time, blood, sweat, and tears in it.
You may call me a fanboy if you'd like, but I have experience, knowledge, and history on my side. EQ launched to numerous guilds who were gung-ho on providing "pure roleplay". Fennin Ro was declared the official unofficial roleplaying server for EQ. You see how long that lasted? DAoC is an absolute cookie-cutter copy of EQ in terms of gameplay ... and gameplay was always your biggest complaint of what was standing in the way of roleplaying in EQ, wasn't it? (Don't bother trying to deny that, I have the board archives going all the way back to January 2000, I can always grep them and quote you. )
DAoC's still in the shiny-new-toy phase. In the minds of people burnt out on EQ, it can do no wrong. Just as EQ was to burnt out UO players.... and just as Shadowbane, Star Wars Galaxies, or EQ2 will be to DAoC players someday.
You can count on it.

I used to go with looks, almost as mini-rp cause i liked ittil they totally nuked that with Luclin.. a L40 druid in pretty armor with decent stats will look the same as that L2 druid in full tattered crap

Khyron impressed everyone with:
If my 'real' gear you mean AC/HP/Stat gear that doesn't look good, or looks mismatched, you're damn right. I don't care about that. If I wanna be a powergamer I play one of my FPS games, camp the rocket launcher/BFG/whatever big spawn it is, and tear the unholy hell out of my opponents assholes. But if you wanna put me in EQ, I won't wear it if I don't like the way it looks. I won't use the uberweapons if they're not piercers(rogue) or slashers(bard). I will eat what I want, drink what I want, despite criticism that I'm stupid for doing so. It's what makes EQ fun. Powergaming isn't fun. Powergaming makes it just a hack and slash game. Powergaming makes EQ like diablo 3, with food and water mixed in. If I want diablo, I'll play diablo. I want a role playing game, so I'm gonna play a role playing game, I'm gonna put thought and effort into my character's history, background, personality... and I'm not gonna treat it like yet another 'hack/slash/loot/sell/ding/yawn/go off to play better things' game.
i have struck a mean balance of uber gear and Looks with my rogue :P its so great

Hey... my tizmak armor used to look real spiff... and what's up with the runed circlet becoming a silvery helmet? I miss the chain veil effect.
Cats are lactose intolerant, and too much milk can make them very ill.
Neither matters to the Vah'Shir, who are a fictional race of cat-people. You can play your cat-person the way you want, that's kinda the point.
You can purchase slush water from the gnomes in Iceclad and it is a flowing drink.

Khyron stumbled drunkenly to the keyboard and typed:
[QB]He absolutely REFUSES to drink water. His backpack is full of milk. RP explanation? Easy enough, he's a VAH'SHIR Kitty hates water, LOVES milk [QB]
Actually Vah'shir are similar to conventional felines... they are lactose intolerant and much prefer water.
Having said that, stay with your quirk. It's fun.
IMHO, roleplaying characters should be a little larger than life, that's why we are roleplaying - to play a character that we cannot normally do in real life. A good roleplayer has a balance between "realism" (world-consistency) and larger-than-life. Don't be just another boring person in the world, after all how does that enhance the community and world? On the other hand, why is everyone the chosen one who was magically blessed by Gods as a child and their destiny is to leave their village and bring peace and harmony to the whole world!
Quirks are good. Quirks *are* roleplaying. People have quirks in real life. The most ardent role players understand this, and that is why the best tabeltop RP systems will incorporate Quirks/Traits/Strengths/Weaknesses/Feats, or whatever you want to call them.

Shadowclan exists on Xev. We are also on Guenivere in DAoC. Shadowbane will be another place we will exist. If World of Warcraft comes into being you can guess that Shadowclan will have a presence there too. http://www.shadowclan.cx
Had never done an RPG before EQ. Kaglaaz uses some of the orcish from Shadowclan UO and some Trollish that someone came up with somewhere. Can't think of playing a MMORPG any other way than In Character
Fippy hit the nail firmly on the head. Kaglaaz has a thing for a female DE Enchanter he grew up with. She had a way of always getting lost so he practically dragged her by the hand around Norrath. When she's not near he tends to have a bottle of Honey Mead around to remind him of her. Kaglaaz has his quirks.
Another clan member is fiercly xenophobic. He pro-troll all the way. Tends to be suspicious of even our ally Iksar, DE and Ogres. [ 12-19-2001: Message edited by: Kaglaaz How'ler ]

Oh, EQ will too, someday. Nothing lasts forever after all, it'll come to a point where the player base will get bored of the game and the programmers can't keep coming with ideas to keep their current customers and attract new ones. This is the voice of realism, not pessimism. However, I think EQ still has a few good years in its future, as it's in a genre in its infancy, and the serious competition has yet to fully develop. But it will stll happen eventually; it's not a question of if, it's a question of when. Enjoy it while it lasts (don't worry, it will still be around for quite a while!)

Nope, are several other categories of drinks besides just drinks. From shortest lasting to longest lasting, I believe they are:
Whistle-wetter: These are do drinks what snacks are to food, don't last very long. Only drink I know of in this category is malted milk, a non-alcoholic drink that can be brewed.
Drink: normal drink, most drinks are this.
Refreshing drink: Steamfont Springwater, that can be foraged in Steamfont Mountains.
Flowing Drink: Actually, not sure if this lasts longer or shorter than refrshing drinks. Can be bought at the gnome outpost in Iceclad Ocean.
Enduring Drink: Longest lasting, lasts about as long as a heart meal. Fuzzlecutter's Formula 5000, sold by Ping Fuzzlecutter in West Freeport, is the only known example. My iksar monk buys these all the time whenever she's near Freeport! It nice not having to buy drinks all the time, goes well with rat-ear pie, one of my favorite provisions to bake, as they're long lasting and only weigh 0.1.

I still remember my vampire character and his weaknesses... he was a kleptomaniac and a pyromaniac. He'd steal something then light it on fire. CONSTANTLY. It was funny, too, because one of our quests we had to recover a scroll. I stole it and burnt it to a crisp. The DM had to think fast to allow us to keep playing that campaign, even though the other players were howling with laughter.

Now, playing a Pyromaniac vampire in V:tM is entertaining...
Their reactions to fire would make it vastly entertaining...
