I pray for the day when parents start growing balls again and beating the shit out of their kids when they act up. You don't do it to hurt them. You don't do it to be abusive. You do it to tell them, 'stfu, I make the rules around here beeotch'. It's how I was brought up. And it taught me respect, do what I'm told, and listen to my elders/betters.
I'm not sure what I'd do to the kid but it wouldn't be pleasant...

Bah. There're better ways to raise a child then to smack them around when you don't approve of their actions. I was brought up treated as an equal by my family; I have PLENTY of respect for them.
What beating me would've gotten was fear.
But anyway, back to the subject, you were definitely justified. I would've done the same thing in your situation.
