Which explains my lack of posting over the last few weeks.

Just spent the last three days with setting up my PC again after it crashed last weekend, and unfortunately all it is still good for is browsing the web. It's the second time I had to do this in three months. That sucks.

So unless some miracle happens, and my PC gets over its hiccups, it is time for a new PC. Tech-savvy guys, please tell me what you think of this system:

- Intel Core i7-2600K 4x 3.4Ghz
- Gigabyte GA-H67N-USB3 (B3) Mainboard
- 8192MB DDR3 Dual Channel 1333MHz (2x 4GB, PC3-10600)
- 1536 MB NVIDIA Geforce GTX 580, DVI, HDMI
- BLU-RAY Player + DVD Burner Combo Drive SATA
- 64GB SATA 600 Crucial RealSSD C300,
- 3000 GB Festplatte SATA III

Also, is there any reason whatsoever to get a the 32bit version of Windows instead of the 64bit one?

Get the 64 bit version, there remains zero compatibility concerns, really.

That seems like it'd be a nice rig. Just make sure you have a powersupply beefy enough to drive it.

I'd recommend Seagate for the large storage; other than that, looks like a winning hardcore gaming rig.

I'd spring for at least 80GB on the SSD. With just Starcraft II/Windows/Program Files on the SSD, I'm using about 79GB. This could be trimmed, of course, but it's a pain in the ass.

The i7 is fantastic, of course, but you only really need it over an i5 for video/scientific work. Don't let that deter you from buying it if you can afford it, of course, but that'd be my first thing to cut if there were any budget concerns.

Do you reckon 600 Watt will be enough?

The SSD is basically only for Windows. Games and stuff will be put on the 3000GB "Festplatte" (HDD).

Jesus how many programs are you people using. Windows 7 Pro here and my 80GB PCI-E SSD still has 30GB free, that's including several large professional Adobe programs for video creation and editing.

On a side note, PCI-E SSD's are amazing. Loading windows in approximately 4 seconds is really nice.

Normal HDDs are really fucking cheap. That's the only reason it is so big.

tru dat

Main reason I don't run a normal HDD is because I built my rig for quietness and the sound of a HDD whining in my ear drives me absolutely insane. Yes, I am that anal. I generally store all my shit on a 500GB WD NetCenter in the other room which can be accessed all over the house.

With the horse and furry porn hidden, of course.

Dual SATA's in my machine, the CPU fan and vid fan make more noise when system is idle.

And because of the CPU and Vid fans in my main system, I don't hear the 4x 2tb SATA's in the file server at my feet....

What you really need to know is how many 12 volt rails it has and how many amps it can push on the 12 volt rail(s). Both your video card and your CPU use the 12 volt rail for their power, and if your power supply can't put out enough amps, you will have lots of crashes when both are using as much power as they want to.

You should be able to find how many amps your CPU and GPU require somewhere in their spec sheet, just make sure you meet or exceed that.
