Definately not an MMA fighter, but the gym where we (our local gym) meet with our Jiu Jitsu black belt is Minnesota Martial Arts. We make the 2 hour drive down to Minneapolis to work with thier Jiu Jitsu class. Sean Sherk and Brock Lesner both hail from that gym. The black belt we work with is owner of the gym and one of the coaches of both Sean and Brock. Sean is a very nice guy, I've met Matt Hughes who is also a good guy. Have yet to see Lesner there.

The nice thing about the Martial Arts scene in a gym is everyone is there to learn something, so attitudes are checked at the door. There's always going to be someone who can do something better than you and in my experience has always been willing to share.

Joking aside, I love that the sport is in such a meteoric rise. As a spectator it's great to have so much competition, but I also love that while there are talentless pop culture shitheads making gobs of money doing nothing, there are also a lot of grandmas out there making gobs of money by being the baddest motherfuckers on the planet.

While I know it's not, I want it all to be a work. That'd be fucking hilarious.

I just saw an MMA cage fight in Vegas. It was rather entertaining.

The title match was some guy nicknamed "Cowboy" fighting Ratcliff.

It started out rather well, with Ratcliff showing clear domination in the beginning. Cowboy, on the other hand, had a trick up his sleeve, a special style of martial arts that would guarantee him the win.

See, Ratcliff was amazing at dodging blows, but cowboy only needed a few solid hits. Cowboy finally landed a brutal combination of blows when Ratcliff let his guard down, straight to Ratcliff's testicles.

The ref broke the fight up to give Ratcliff time to recover. Clearly this was an accident, and Cowboy apologized.

After Ratcliff could walk again, the fight resumed. Amazingly, Ratcliff kept on gaining ground against Cowboy, clearly outmatching him, until Cowboy pulled out all the stops and kneed Ratcliff in the balls again.

This was the turning point of the fight. At this point the two were fighting on even grounds, and while the ref gave Cowboy a warning, it was clear that if he pulled that type of stunt one more time, he would be pulled.

When Cowboy kneed Ratcliff square in the testicles one final time, the ref was clearly puzzled. This isn't a professional wrestling event, this is a sanctioned mixed martial arts fight. The sport is on the verge of becoming mainstream, outdoing boxing. Does he end the fight right there, the major event of the night in front of all these fans, or keep going?

Ratcliff said to keep going. Needless to say, it became clear that no matter how talented a fighter is, enough massive damage to his testicles can take him out of commission enough to lose the fight.

I'm glad I wasn't one of the people placing bets on that fight.

That was a bizarre main event, yes, but it was by no means deliberate on Donald Cerrone's part. That's an unfortunate byproduct of being a 6'1" 155 pounder.

anyways hi i have a blue belt in bjj and ive had amateur kickboxing matches

idk how mma would fare for me, i bet id gas out in the first round!

That's good to hear, it was a vicious fucking cut. Just have to hope it heals well enough that it won't be easy to re-open in future fights.

Otherwise grandma's got a great big TKO bullseye on his forehead.

Diego's not really prone to cutting, and hasn't had many big cuts in his career. That's easily the worst cut he's ever had, but given the location, it shouldn't be an issue. Most people who get chronic cuts, typically, have loads of scar tissue build up near the eyebrow ridge. The other big spots would be under the eyes, but again, quite rare compared to the eyebrows.

Assuming he actually got it stitched up properly, I don't think it'll be a problem in the future!

oh also today we had a turkey roll at bjj and i nearly puked, christmas has not done me any favors.

ok bye time to go drinking.

Dunno who you're referring to, so I respond.

I've got a 1-0 amateur boxing record, I'm 6-2 in grappling tournaments, and 2-0 in amateur MMA.

The boxing win was via KO at 1:12 of round 1.

The grappling is:
Wins - 5 submission, 1 points(Decision) with the subs being kimura, omoplata, guillotine, guillotine and and rear naked choke

The amateur MMA bouts are 1 win by TKO and 1 by submission (Rear naked choke), both in round one.

Assuming semipro means amateur competitive MMA, I'm there. Otherwise I dunno what you mean.

Have met Professor Sauer ("Call me Pedro" he says) 2 times and he's really a great guy. I can understand why he's such a sought after instructor. 3 hour seminars seem to just fly by when working with him.

I'm not currently doing any Jiu-Jitsu because the mats at the local gym are too thin and are making my knees hurt so I'm out until we get some ZebraMats. Might take another year before the mats are done, otherwise I'd be at least a stripe or two into my blue belt. (currently holding steady at a 4 stripe white...)

Sean Sherk won't be fighting in the next UFC he was scheduled in. He cut his head open somehow and had to bow out.

Yeah, we were both on our first amateur boxing fight - he was a big slugger with garbage movement and I basically just slipped 90 degrees around him every time he threw and did a 2 or 3 hit combo. The KO came when I landed a really solid hook-cross-hook doing exactly that.
