Are we doing this?
What about a Yankee Swap, online?

I thought a Yankee swap was when you stood in a circle and everyone jerked off the person to their left.

No, it isn't. Remind me never to invite you to my parties.

Setup:
1) Everyone brings a gift.
2) Everyone takes a number.
3) Everybody goes in order (1 goes first, 2 goes second, 3 goes third)

Rounds:
1) Pick an unopened gift. Open that gift.
2) Choose whether you want to keep the gift or swap it with someone else's opened gift.
If you chose to swap with someone else...
3) The victim of the swap may then chose to keep his gift or swap with someone else who hasn't already swapped this round.

The round ends when either
a) Everyone left already swapped
or
b) Someone choses to keep the gift they have and not swap

Final Round:
1) After everything is said and done, the person who had the number 1 gets to chose to keep his gift or swap with anyone. This means that number one is the most desirable number and number 2 is the least.

This seems challenging for an online community, but if we're doing it I'm down.

Secret Santa was great back when there were more people and a larger sense of community.

Nah, there's plenty of ways to do it. The worst that would happen is that we'd have a very long thread. If someone takes too long (maybe 1 day or x hours/minutes) we can say they just "keep their gift."

Example:

quote:

Diadem:
Action - Swap with Kloie. Trade Plush Cthulu doll for Red Ryder BB Gun

Results
State of Gifts:
1 Kloie's Gift: UNOPENED
2 Innoruk Gift: UNOPENED
3 Diadem's Gift: $20 Amazon.com Gift Certificate [Has not been swapped this round]
4 Mort's Gift: Red Ryder BB Gun [Has been swapped this round]
5 Deligamond's Gift: UNOPENED
6 Ozzymander's Gift: Plush Chtulu Doll [Has been swapped this round]
7 Cadga's Gift: UNOPENED

State of People:
1 Kloie: Plush Chtulu Doll [Has been swapped this round]
2 Innoruk: $20 Amazon.com Gift Certificate [Has been not swapped this round]
3 Diadem: Red Ryder BB Gun [Has been swapped this round]
4 Mort: N/A
5 Deligamond: N/A
6 Ozzymander: N/A
7 Cadga: N/A

Kloie would then have the option to swap out the doll for the certificate or keep it.

quote:

Kloie:
Action - Keeping the doll

Then it would be Mort's turn to open a gift....

quote:

Mort:
Round 4 - start.

Action - Open Innoruk's gift.

quote:

Innoruk:
It's a gun rack!

[picture of gun rack]

Results
State of Gifts:
1 Kloie's Gift: UNOPENED
2 Innoruk Gift: Gun rack [Has not been swapped this round]
3 Diadem's Gift: $20 Amazon.com Gift Certificate [Has not been swapped this round]
4 Mort's Gift: Red Ryder BB Gun [Has not been swapped this round]
5 Deligamond's Gift: UNOPENED
6 Ozzymander's Gift: Plush Chtulu Doll [Has not been swapped this round]
7 Cadga's Gift: UNOPENED

State of People:
1 Kloie: Plush Chtulu Doll [Has not been swapped this round]
2 Innoruk: $20 Amazon.com Gift Certificate [Has not been swapped this round]
3 Diadem: Red Ryder BB Gun [Has not been swapped this round]
4 Mort: Gun Rack [Has not been swapped this round]
5 Deligamond: N/A
6 Ozzymander: N/A
7 Cadga: N/A

Mort could then keep or swap...

you get the point.

Or I could spend two hours and make a program to keep track of rounds/items/etc.

A gun rack? What am I gonna do with a gun rack? I don't even own a gun nevermind multiple guns to necessitate a rack.
