My new iPod nano arrived today. Once again, this thing just proves that no one builds beauty with aluminum and glass quite like Apple. I daresay this little thing has enough features and value to impress anyone. My random observations:

1. The new polished finish is amazing to touch, and to look at. Holds on to fingerprints, though.

2. The FM radio works well enough, at least for the one Buffalo radio station I can stand to listen to. Didn't try tagging songs to buy later in iTunes, though, but the DVR-ish function seemed to work fine. I didn't buy it to listen to the radio, though.

3. With the 56-pixel larger screen, it comes closer to true widescreen - I played the same music video on both my 4th gen and 5th gen nanos at the same time. Much less cropping at the sides. I'd have to play the same video on the pc and the nano at the same time to see if there is any cropping at all.

4. The built in pedometer might be enough to get me to exercise. Or not.

5. The camera seems to work well enough for video, but it's only a 0.3 mp camera, which means stills would look dreadful if it could take them - which it can't. Maybe after it's finished charging again I'll take a video with it so you can judge the quality for yourselves.

6. It appears to be slightly incompatible with the Universal Dock - when I play it through headphone connected to the dock, the music is "Unamplified"... but if the dock isn't plugged into the PC, the sound from the headphones is fine. Firmware glitch?

7. The click wheel is smaller, and it's hard to hit the bottom button on it when docked since the bottom edge of the click wheel is partially sunk into the dock. This might be enough to get me to get the remote for it.

8. I'm no audio expert, but even with the stock earbuds, it sounds just as good as my 4th gen nano.

9. It's actually $20 cheaper than the last model was, at least for the 16 gig one.

10. One slight issue that's been reported - if you buy one at the store, look closely at the click wheel before you buy it - the wheel isn't attached directly to the body any more, and one site noticed a noticeable gap on the edge of the click wheel on one of theirs. Mine has a very, very tiny gap in the NW "corner", but the qay it's mounted, zero gap would be impossible.

So yes, I'm a sucker for a new nano, it seems.
