I know this has happened to a number of you and wanted your input on whether it's worth going through the repair process or picking up a new 360 Arcade for $200 since I have my controllers and HD already. My warranty from Best Buy might still be active too, although I think my warranty paper is long gone. Do they store that in the system or am I hosed on that?

Most stores are huge jerks about their warranty if you lost the papers they issued you.

I guess you could buy an Arcade and then just sell the unit that Microsoft ships back to you if you want a system within the next month

Apparently the serial number that's printed on the back of my 360 does not exist and thus i can not register the system online to begin a repair to at least see what it'd cost me.

This is a mystery.

Or what looks like 8s are actually 6s and the repair is still covered under the factory warranty!

You purchased a lengthened warranty and omitted to keep the receipt somewhere safe?

You deserve whatever you get.

This. They'll pretty much take any unit as long as you claim it's an RRoD.

Yar, they flat out replaced my 360 with a new one when I got the RRoD.. and my factory warranty had expired by over a year.

I just said that mine wouldn't render games correctly and they replaced it. MS are pretty cool about it.
