Downright amazing, raised ranch finished top to bottom in hardwood and ceramic tile, two full baths... we were in awe the moment we stepped in. We've seen some SHIT houses so my first thought was "Self, we are clearly in the wrong home here".
We weren't! Even secured all of the appliances with our offer, brand new matching sets no less. Have a friend of ours who currently pays a crapload of rent to live with his buddy in a cramped wartime era home moving into the lower level, cutting him a huge deal on rent so he saves money and we save money.
So damn excited right now, after the past few weeks of shit houses or great homes in shit neighborhoods this seems like a dream or something.
The card we got from the realtor for a local lawyer for the closing has an email address @awesomelawyer.com... that is just... odd. Thinking we will find someone else <_<

We just bought a house too. Took possession of it on the 29th. 2100 SQFT, three bedrooms, 2.5 bath, HUGE kitchen.... And best of all, the mortgage payment is less than my monthly housing allowance. Two stories, too.
Though I am definitely painting the walls. It has some horrible colors in that place...

We wrangled their new dishwasher, fridge, oven, front loaded dryer & washer along with all fixtures and new window treatments for 2 thousand more, saving us a shitton there.
Waiting till tuesday for final confirmation on financing but we are putting 20% in a downpayment on the house to avoid the mortgage getting ensured (And thus avoid getting taxes added onto the mortgage itself), own our own vehicles and have no existing debt. We feel we are in very good shape and are hoping for the best.

School loans aren't "real" debt. You could probably find a foreclosure for less than you could find an apartment.
I've still got about 15 grand in school loans, and my bankruptcy won't even be finalized for another two weeks, and I'm already receiving pre-approved loan offers for mortgages, auto refinancing, credit cards, you name it.

I'm in the process of saving up for my down payment on a house. Should have enough in a year to year and a half. Hopefully the market won't have turned around by then.
For those of you that HATE and I mean HATE getting those damned mailings for credit cards and such, just go to the opt out website, I did this a few years ago and like 98% of our junk mail stopped. You can choose to make it go away permanently or for 5 years as well as some other options. We chose permanently as we had some credit card troubles in the past.

Oh my god yes, we heard about the prices up there when we were house hunting and it is downright frightening the difference 4 hours of travel time makes. That blows :\
