what more do you want

Well I think I figured it out. When you reach a checkpoint it will show up on the bottom left side of the screen in very tiny words, the game doesn't autosave so you have to do it manually. Everything you did up until you hit that checkpoint will be saved. If you progress further and get halfway to the next checkpoint and save, it basically does nothing and it will just be a clone of the earlier save you did. You actually have to hit a checkpoint in order for your actions to be saved when you save. dumb

Isn't that how it's "always" been?

Well there is that and the fact that it's basically: 15 minutes of playtime for every 20-30 minutes of movie. Kojima has really gotten out of control with the whole cinematic thing. That's not to say they are BAD, because they are quite awesome and fun to watch... But that's just it. I don't play a game to WATCH it, I play it to PLAY it.

Combine that with the fact that Cutscenes are not ALWAYS at the end of a checkpoint (Sometimes in the middle) and the actuall time needed to get from one checkpoint to another can be quite long given the scene times. At least you can skip them after the first time.

I still love shoving people in lockers though. Glad that is still there.

The controls are rather unintuitive. And the stupid getting stuck in crouch shit is annoying. Want him to get out of crouch and he goes prone, want him to go prone and he stands up. It's wonky.

This game is beautifull, and I have been a huge fan of the Metal Gear games way back with the first on NES and the revamp in MGSolid on the original PS. Sadly this one just strikes me as meh so far. Good, not great; fun, but not overwhelmingly so... The aformentioned overly long and intrusive cutscenes for one make it less of a game and more of an interactive movie.

But, I'm only 6 1/2 hours in so far though... Hoping it will lessen (It seems they have to some extent, still a couple of really long intrusvive ones) at least until the end. I think I may take a break from the main game and give the MGO a try for a bit.

I can see the complaints about cutscenes, but "great" would be an understatement for my experience with the game so far. "Good" is right out.

I like Metal Gear because of the cutscenes.

The gameplay has never been that good.

The gameplay is really good in this one, but the cutscenes are definitely what makes it all work

If I wanted to watch a movie I'd WATCH A MOVIE but now that I work at a movie theatre I kinda hate most movies because of over-promotion.

So maybe I'll buy a PS3 because god knows I've been waiting for this game forever.

Definitely. The whole game would have been so much better sans Raiden.

Concerning the ending: how'd he get his arms back, anyway?

Funny, I thought Raiden turned out to be a surprisingly likable character by the end considering how lame he was in MGS2. It's one of those situations where the sequel makes the original much better. Suddenly, I'm finding myself looking back at MGS2 with rose-colored glasses in spite of how upset I was over it at the time.

Notice how they're barcoded? It's similar to how Ocelot ended up with Liquid's arm, I'm sure

I kind of wish they did more with act 3's environment. Although that motorcycle chase was probably the best looking playable fmv ever if you didn't use L1 to aim and let it use the cinematic cameras instead.

Raiden and Rose were redeemed as characters, I think. Besides, Raiden's part in the ending was incredibly minor. Even if you don't like him, it's only a minor part in wrapping up the whole saga

I'm playing back through on Extreme, trying for no kills and no alerts. Some of these areas are so large that playing back through them after making a mistake is a real pain in the butt.

So did I, but you take a lot more damage on extreme. at least it seems that way.

In any case I finally kicked his ass, after about 10 tries or so. Time to make dinner and watch an hour of ending cinematics.

EDIT: Oh wow, the Solar Gun
