I got off the phone with the emergency clinic.

Gus is not doing well. He can't keep down fluids and he's not making urine. His kidneys, we believe, are slowly shutting down.

He's probably not going to make it through this, they say.

He's only seven.

Fuck.

Poor Gus! He's the only pug I care about! I hope he'll come through it Parce. This is terrible news.

Or is Gus your dog with the rents? I forget.. I know Charlie is the Corgie.

No, not the Warchief.

I hope he pulls though... but if he doesn't, make sure you tell all dogs how he bravely took down Mannoroth.

Seriously, for what it's worth, I hope he gets better.

It completely sucks.

The vet said last night that they think he may be able to resolve it if he was on IV.

At four o'clock, they said he probably wasn't going to make it.

By ten, they said he probably had cancer.

Well, apparently after a week of not making urine, ol' Gus peed out half a liter this afternoon.

They think he may have some hope. We're being cautiously optimistic; stuff could still go wrong, but the problem may not be as severe as we thought.

Half a liter?

Damn, no wonder the little guy was in such bad straits... that must have been damn near twice the healthy size of his bladder there, if not more...

Hopefully he'll be better now...

I'm not sure who still cares, but Gus is gone as of three days ago.

In the span of an hour, his kidneys completely shut down and waste filled his lungs.

In another hour, they put him down. My dad buried him under a eucalyptus tree next to Ajax, our doberman and his best friend, with a milkbone in his paws.

He was a good dog.

Fuck.

I had my dog of 15 years put down last month. They offered a cremation service; so now she's in a nice-looking box with her picture on it and an inscription on a shelf close to where she liked to lay down. It certainly helped me knowing that in a way she was staying with me. Maybe they'll have that kind of service for Gus?

Sorry to hear that Parce and my deepest condolances. I lost Yoda, my Chihuahua over the summer, she was 12. Heart failure... she died in my arms at the vets office. I cried for quite some time. The way she looked at me as the vet euthanized her still haunts me but I had to be there with her. I buried her down at our family's cabin deep in the sand where she loved to run about. I still miss her terribly. My girls still are mourning her...

Faithful Friend

God summononed a beast from the field and He said...

"I endow you with the instincts uncommon to other beasts: faithfulness,
devotion and understanding surpassing those of man himself.

Lest it impair your understanding, you are denied the power of words...
Speak to your master only with your mind and through honest eyes...

So be silent, and be a friend to man...
This shall be your destiny and your immortality." So spake the Lord.

And the dog heard and was content.
