Upon plugging them in right out of the box (via a PenguinAmp Royal amp) I was struck with the impression that they were vastly better than my Sennheiser HD650's. Sound resolution was a lot clearer and I was able to pick out quiet parts of songs I hadn't noticed before or thought were just silence at the beginning of the file (possibly attributed to the fact that open headphones aren't so good in a room with my noisy ass rig). In one song, I could pick out where what I though was just a single bass beat was actually a very rapid succession (sounded like a crowd of people stamping their feet) of sounds. All in all, this set produces much clearer and more precise sound than the HD650's. I'd recommend them to anyone who is looking for a nice set of sealed cans in the $300-$500 range.
