A brand new recreation of the cult-classic shooter created by Tetsuya Mizuguchi, “Rez HD” launches on Xbox LIVE Arcade this week. In addition to “Rez HD,” chess fans and newcomers alike will enjoy checkmating friends with “Chessmaster Live” on Xbox LIVE Arcade. Both games will be available on Wednesday, January 30 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (1:00 a.m. PST).

“Rez HD” is a frenetic, wire-frame adventure set to industrial beats and rhythms that match the action. The story of “Rez HD” takes players deep into the world’s computer network where they must hack the system, alter the visual output and take over the music, creating unique rhythms and eye candy as they dig deeper into the cyberworld.

Developed by Q Entertainment (“Lumines Live!” and “Every Extend Extra Extreme”), “Rez HD” for Xbox LIVE Arcade is a high definition update of the original game with brand new elements such as new visuals and sound effects. The game features five levels, each with its own unique visual theme, style and musical track, as well as three modes, including Easy, Main and Score Attack. “Rez HD” will be available worldwide for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.

it's just not worth the 150 or whatever the ps2 version was going for at one point (it's only worth 35-40 nowadays)

It is a linear shooter

you're better off just downloading the demo on Wednesday and seeing if you think it's neat

Demos seem so unsporting

I was raised in an era when you went to the store and bought your atari 2600 game based on the box art.

And you liked it!!

Game Review: Rez HD (Xbox 360) Perfection?
The progression of the levels, the graphics, the vibration functions, the updated sound and visuals all come together in what can only be described as a work of art. It was a good game before, but the changes and additions made to this $10 version take it above and beyond the Rez you may have played in the past. This is an absolute must-buy for any video game fan; Frank and I have been discussing what we would have done to improve the game, and we can't think of anything. This is a completely-realized experience that will take full advantage of your home theater.

I do NOT understand how this game is supposed to be good.

It's like panzer dragoon without the textures, or the fun. And it's hard as fuck to understand what the hell is going on half the time.

Take away the dragons and add Tron. I just don't understand the appeal.

Not sure what you're talking about. For all the talk about how "artistic" rez is, the graphics look like the same old "SNES Starfox" style primitives and the music really isn't very catchy or engaging.

Lumines pulled off the whole "trance gaming" thing a lot better.

It's just that so many people gush over this game and I just can't understand why. Gabe called it, and I quote, "One of the greatest games ever made", and he's not alone on that assessment.

I just don't see what a panzer dragoon clone does to warrant that kind of praise. Panzer Dragoon Orta had good graphics (with textures!), more diverse gameplay with three totally different upgradeable dragons, an awesome sense of scale, memorable and atmospheric music, and a compelling story to boot.

Not one of these are present in Rez, and yet Rez gets people orgasming over it, seriously calling it one of the greatest games of all time, and Panzer Dragoon Orta pretty much slipped by without too much fanfare and is forgotten already.

Is it seriously raver drug culture that's propping this game up? I can't see what else it could be.

it's perfect at everything it attempts to do

simple concept and gameplay, impressive, yet minimalistic visuals, and a really badass techno/trance theme

there's no flaws in the game really, even though the game is not very deep
