Part of my Xmas loot was cold, hard cash. It's more than enough to buy a DS and a couple of games. I've toyed with the idea now for a while, and now that I have the moolah to spare, I'm definitely thinking about it.

So, from now until noonish today, you may attempt to sway me from this course, or continue to guide me on it. As always, games/alternate purchase recommendations are welcome.

I'm thinking about a DS purely for that brain training thingy.

Since my short term memory is god-awful, it might improve it.

Sold. That was one of the reasons I wanted a DS in the first place: for the homebrew potential.

It's funny how badly cracked both portables are this generation. Sony makes an effort to secure the PSP every few months but in about a week the hackers can break through.

If it's you, I could be persuaded. It'd take a lot of liquor, though.

Multiple times, it's taken a day to hack the latest firmware.

R4.

Where do you buy this? Thier Vendor links are borked.

And does this cover using the DS as a psuedo MP3 player? Cause if so I wouldn't have to buy an MP3 Payer.

There may or may not be a thread on SA Mart selling 'em. (I think Kaliban is the one that sells them.)

Alright, picked one up at the Nintendo store up in midtown, along with Brain Age 2(squared?). Gonna order that R4DS thingy when I get home tonight, which is going to be awesome. Any other accessories I should consider?

OK, cool. So, what are the hip, happening, totally cool homebrew sites that I should be browsing?

You might also consider picking up a Sudoku game for it.

Sudoku Gridmaster is one of the best versions of the half a dozen or so that I've played.

That is, if you're into sudoku.

OK, ordered my R4. It looks like I'm going to have to order some form of Slot 2 RAM for this beast so's I can get DSLinux to run properly. Any recommendations?

DS Doom and some NES emulator.

That's how I get the most use out of mine. (barring the obvious other thing)

The R4 is really cool. Any particular homebrew I should consider using (it came with a bunch)?

Also, I got DSLinux working on it, which is just about the bee's knees. Once I have the wireless working properly, I'll be able the envy of everyone on the internet with a text-based interface!

Moonshell or w/e, the media program is all you need for that.

I use DSDoom and whatever NES emulator I use.
