From what I heard, Sarkozy is trying trying to restructure and make cuts to some of the more grossly wasteful government services, but every time he tries the unions strike.

What the government gives, it can't take away. Which is a great argument for the government not giving anything.

Hey, for once the French are making themselves miserable, instead of undeserving Americans, Germans, Brits.....hell, the whole rest of the world really.

I approve.

It's in the imperative tense. Thus, it says, "Let us study." Or as we might say in the US, "Let us go to school."

The good news this time is that the public is backing the government rather than the strikers.

It's generally been that way over here too, when the Montreal transit society tried to go on strike for ridiculous pay raises and benefits. After a week of strike, the public pretty much stopped caring about the union and realized what they were asking of the government was ridiculous compared to their own conditions.

Moral of the story, public service employees should never have unions.
