How dumb do you have to be to think you can get away with showing any part of a R-rated movies, especially 300, to a bunch of sixth-graders?

Still, the screams of outrage are always entertaining.

Because surely ChristianAnswers.net is a completely unbiased website, which would respect art and filmaking................................surely.

Boy, they must (the reviewers) have watched a lot of the movie to get to the scenes of lesbianism. You'd think they'd have had enough to condemn the movie after the first twenty minutes.

I actually read the whole review referred to; yeah, he trashed the movie, but the reviewer did actually agree to a few things.... naked Persians not withstands; though he did blast Leonidas as being "anti-religion."

Yeah, I kinda wondered how everybody seemed to miss the fairly poignant anti-religious tidbits in the movie.

I figured Dilios shouting "This day we rescue a world from mysticism and tyranny..." would be a pretty big clue.

This statement makes me laugh. Most 12 year olds know as much or more about sex than I do.

As for the R-rated movie in schools, I understand the views of the families. Without special permissions, these movies should not be shown because of physical, mental, and verbal content. There is a reason, most of the time, that a movie is rated R. And the fact that R-rated items are controlled at movie theaters and rental outlets is a strong indication that they should be equally cautious of their use in schools.

That said, the five minute clip they were talking about is, in my opinion, a well done and fairly dramatic commentary of how boys were treated and turned to warriors back in that day.

As for the lesbian content... Where was this? I dont recall any lesbian content. There were two sex scenes, where one was really just implied. I could be wrong on this.

As for the kids who 'couldnt sleep that night' because of the shadow of the wolf on the wall... I call bullshit. Kids these days arent normally shaken by implied violence with no real value. Some might be, but most... eh.
I should think the idea of throwing babies from a cliff when they cried too much would be more psychologically upsetting than an overly monstrous wolf meeting its end.

Oh, and just out one more thing.

Technically, this statement can be applied to the bible and most other religious works, but possibly without the words 'pornographic' and 'movie'. Not trying to diss religion, because many of the lessons in the bible are in regards to sex and sexual proclivities and conduct, and that is why these things are included in the writing, but the fact that it is in there is what I am getting at.

If they just showed the opening sequence then I don't see where they can really complain. If they were doing a section on Spartans, Greeks, or what have you that is a fairly accurate portrayal of how it was. Saying there was violence involved is kind of moot because the Spartans were just violent people.

See that line I interpreted as them breaking the idea that Xerxes was a god, since like you know the Persians were portrayed to be the ones living under the mysticism and tyranny, and that Greece didn't dig this idea.

Yeah..thats why you had all that buildup, only to have Xerxes get winged. It was enough to prove he wasn't a god. Wasn't so much anti-religion as it was anti false god.

And then there was the Ephors, the legitimate faith of sparta, who were portrayed as horribly corrupt and out and out wrong. Leonidas pleads with them to trust in reason rather than trusting in the gods.

It wasn't an overt theme of the entire movie, but every religion that made an appearance was in a very bad light.

I saw it more along the lines of.. Taking care of ones self, and ones own. It centered the Spartans around each other, being as how they couldn't rely on anybody else. Not so much a slant against religion, as it was to focus more on the 300 against the world.

Besides.. it's a movie.
Based on a comic book.

Why the hell would it matter if its a movie based on a comic as its a fairly accurate, minus flashy special effects, of what happened.

Taking care of oneself on your own is a standard of most non-theists, much like Benjamin Franklin's comment of "God helps those who help themselves" Another moral of 300, listening to religion will destroy society. It was only the turning from religion that King Leonidas and his Guard were able to act as a symbol and get the rest of Greece off of their collective asses.

My point was that it is entertainment. Not a lesson in how to live your life.

Do you speak ancient greek?
Were you there?
Then you can't really judge accuracy.

Besides, they changed phalanx to make it look cool. What makes you think they didn't take other creative license?
