Broke down and got this last night.

At what point is it supposed to be fun? Or at the very least, sixty dollar fun? All I saw in that demo level is stupid bosses, an obnoxious midget character and a boss encounter whose cutscene magically forgets to include a character which spoke a dozen times up until then. Only to have that character show up in the boss battle itself again. The same battle where the party retains its full powers, even though the boss had apparently just sucked them out, putting the party in a catatonic state.

If these discontinuities are any indicator of the full game, I'll wait until it's bargain bin material, jeez.

Probably a shitty demo from an early alpha/beta build.

At least, I'd hope it was.

It's not the combat as much as the terrible storytelling. Eternal Sonata looks 100 times better both graphics and gameplay wise though.

I'm not sure who thought the ugly blue dragons coming out of peoples back was a good design idea. Let alone one to name the game after.

All Toriyama games are like "hey guys remember Chrono Trigger? That was cool right?"

But really it could have been made by one person.

Toriyama only has 3 or 4 characters and a handful of monsters. He just changes their clothes and hairstyles now and again.

More or less, he has these characters:

Happy eye guy (Gokuu, Crono)
Angry eye guy (Vegeta, Piccolo)
Limp hair woman (Chichi, Bulma, the nerd from Chrono Cross)
Fluffy hair woman (Lunch)
Fat monster guy
Scrawny Quark monster guy (also includes giant scrawny guys)
Moustachioed monster guy
Dinosaur
Animal thing

Probably be too easy, but it looks fantastic and I like the combat. This is how cell shading was meant to be used! Wrapped around a model.

The only reason Akira Toriyama art is picked on specifically is because all the work he does is extremely popular and pasted/mimicked everywhere.

He's got a very easy to copy style, and he does stick to the same designs a lot. But honestly, most anime designers (and other cartoonists) do. Look at the faggo that does the Kingdom Hearts drawings. And Amano from Final Fantasy. Every goddamn one of his characters has the same face, he's just really REALLY good at drawing extremely detailed clothing, so he's hailed as the god of FF art.

Not really saying Toriyama doesn't use the same face for his stuff, just trying to say that so does everyone else. It's just that because DBZ was so popular for a very long time, everyone got really friggin' sick of looking at it.

Also, he has been mixing it up a little bit recently. Here's some art from Dragon Quest Swords.

It's still very obviously Toriyama, but hey, the man's got a namesake in his style and it sells games. Why not bank on it?

Amano draws nothing but faggots in drag or women who you can't see when they turn sideways. DBZ characters can shoot lazers out of their fucking hands.

Toriyama > Amano.

If you're shooting a lazer beam (mind you that's probably a pretty bright light) out of your eyes, you more than likely wouldn't be able to see too well.

If I can shoot a lazer outta my fucking hand it's like getting hit with the accuracy of my fist, but with the heat of A THOUSAND SUNS.

HELL YEAH

Also, I am not ashamed to admit that if I discovered that I had this power one day, the absolute first thing I would do would be run outside and take out a tree.

First one I could find. Not kill anyone, not fret over what to do, good or evil. Just blow up a tree. Because that is fucking badass. Lazer lumberjacks.

but you swing the wiimote to attack so that makes it cool

I actually like Dragon Warrior games a lot, so I'll probably pick this up. They're cliche, but for some reason, it always seems like they're just what other people base cliches off of. All very epic, simplistic, but lovable stories.

A truly underappreciated namesake in America. Mainly due to us only having the first 1 for the most part and that is just a horribly outdated and glitchy game (we HAD 2-4 on NES, but they were so rare they might as well not have come out).

We had 1&2 and 3 for Gameboy, but that was just the wrong audience and timeframe (how could a full fldeged NES rpg on a Gameboy that isn't pokemon compare with the SNES-PS1 games of the time?) for those games. Then we got 7 which is the most lackluster of the series, and it just never showed it's face again till 8 which, to my surprise, was well recieved. I'm assuming because Square had it's name on it for once.

Hopefully DW Monsters: Joker, DW Swords and DW9 do as well as 8 did. I'd love to see the series get more notice as they're really fantastic games.
