Let's make some bets here because I'm bored. Winners get new titles, if they so choose to put up their bets.

Situation: I live in a three-room apartment with two dogs. I have housebroken both of these dogs since they were puppies with obedience problems. The apartment has been cleaned thoroughly only three times in as many years I've been here.

I am now moving out and it needs to be cleaned. The Merry Maids are coming over today to have a look at it and give me a free estimate. What do you think they will charge for this shop of horrors to get a thorough cleaning?

The bedroom is one room, carpeted. It's connected to a hall, carpeted, across from which is the bathroom, tile. The living room is carpeted and attached to the kitchen, tiled.

Going with $500. Why don't you just clean it yourself? All you need is a sponge, a bucket of diluted bleach, and some kneepads.

Take that $500 and buy an x-box or a 8800GTS or something.

My vote is for $600. If you had their weekly service, it would probably cost less, but this is a one-time cleaning. Figure a team of four, working for ten hours. The company probably charges around $15 per person per hour. (Obviously that includes resources, overhead, and a profit margin, not just the maids' salaries.) Since I have no personal experience with this sort of service, my reasoning is purely speculative.

Alright, the cleaning lady just arrived and gave me the estimate.

$150 if the apartment is picked up. $200 if it's not.

However they don't do carpets, so I'll total up the issue with the carpet cleaners who are coming to inject enzymes into the doggy stains here in order to deep clean them.

Saying 100-400$. Even with the carpet cleaning. It's actually cheaper because you're moving, as they won't have all your furniture and crap to maneuver around.

So, the carpet cleaner arrived today and, upon looking at my carpet, promptly cackled and giggled and said that if we were just going to tile the place up, we should, since curing the carpet would just cost as much.

So, basically, anyone who guessed the first option is the winner! But since I'm in a good mood, everyone can PM me for a title they'd like!

That's what we're doing. The carpet and decimated tile gets pulled up, the concrete gets acid washed, new tile goes down.

So much the better. Do you have tile or hardwood in your new digs?

Since it was designed with me in mind, we put down tile. It's better for people who have dogs and I prefer it.
