I think it looks interesting. I don't really think a lot of people that liked the original three Ninja Turtles movies liked them because of the suits but because Ninja Turtles was the big cartoon/toy line at the time. I mean, sheeit. I was 9 when the first one came out. I don't see the whole rubber suit dealie (or whatever the fuck they used in the first movie) as so majorly important like people elsewhere do. And I think CG will allow for even more expression and such if done right.

Something tells me the 18-24 age group isn't the target audience for this but the kids that are currently watching the new cartoon are said target audience.

While I'm not overly excited for to see it, the movie looks like it could be interesting. How many times can they beat up the Footclan and shredder? At least they're trying to breath new life into the franchise.

Plus have you watched the old movie lately? Talk about a camp fest.

What am I supposed to in here again? Oh yes something witty and oh so pretty!

The live action and the animatronic suits added a wet, gritty, realistic element to the movies. It was interesting because it was a cartoon concept thrust into realism.

This movie is a cartoon concept thrust into a cartoon concept.

Second wasn't all that great either.. I actually prefered the third over the second, as retarded as it was.

The first original TMNT Movie was, and will always be, pure awesomeness though. They shoulda stopped with the first.

Wrong. You're disagreeing because EVERYONE ELSE HATES IT, SO I LIKE IT.

Second was the best, first was cool, third was the worst.

Third was the one where they were teleported to Japan or some shit.

Third one they went back in time to ancient China or Japan or something. Traded places with some samurai dudes I think.

And while the first two were better than the third, I liked the third one too.

When I first saw that, I was so confused, because they weren't calling him Vanilla Ice in the movie.

Then, six months later, when I turned 23, I figured it out.

Yeah, I should have specified. When I think of 'the original' movies, I just don't mentally include part 3 in there, heh.

1st and 3rd had Casey Jones, the second had Super Shredder and the baby spiked turtle and dog things which just added way more to the cheese.

The first was just awesome, it felt more real less goofy/kiddie taking on a darker look (Even though premise wise and content wise it was still pretty tame.) since by the time it came out I had pretty grown out of the Turtles toon phase but still had some affection for the series.

The second one, Secret of the Ooze, was just pure goofy, campy, cheese with the mutant goo, the Rocksteady/Beebop replacements, and SUPER SHREDDER! All they needed was Krang and it would have been a complete live action cartoon version, with Vanilla Ice, although less cool. A part of me still likes it, and I own it, but I liked it least of the three due to its flat out goofiness. Like I said, I was older at the time and had left a lot of that behind.

The third was pretty much disassociated with the other 2 and went somewhere weird with the series... It was just less goofy/campy with a more down to earth story. (Not to say it wasn't still goofy just based on premise alone..) It was, Turtles in Time, where they went back as Samurais and replaced 4 from the past using an artifact latern and couldn't get back till it was replaced. And Casey Jones was back in the series.

Overall I loved the turtles when I was younger, I even liked the new series on TV to some degree. I loved the movies, and own all three. My favorite being the first. They coulda stopped with that one and it woulda been awesome, but I dont mind 3 so much.

As I understand it, it went something like this:

Waaaaaaay back in the beginning, Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman created the TMNT when they were working as graphic artists. They were drunk, eating pizza, watching kung fu movies when they cooked them up, and it became sort of an intentionally-campy side project.

They produced a HUGE number of black and white comics, and a few were collected into colorized graphic novels/compendiums (I had four of them). Back at this point, color of the headbands wasn't an issue because it was a black and white comic, but they all had red headbands. In this era they did a deal with the then-new Palladium Books to do an RPG.

Some time not long after, Eastman bought out Laird's share of the rights and in turn signed a contract with the bevvy of companies that produced the cartoon. While he knew certain elements would have to be kiddy-fied, he never really intended it to get as campy as it did (compare the first season of the show with the last season). He was NOT particularly pleased, but eventually the first movie was created, and it incorporated elements of the fourth compendium (except it was Leonardo, not Raph, who got the everlovin' crap kicked out of him). The second movie COMPLETELY went off into left field regarding the origin of the mutagen that altered the turtles. He wasn't pleased. The third movie incorporated certain time travel elements from the third compendium (like the time staff), but the franchise wallowed.

A few years ago, movie rights reverted to Eastman. He got the new cartoon (April in particular was reverted to something closer to her original origin), and it did moderately well. The new movie is supposed to be more of a revision of things, returning more to it's roots.

Yeah, he's dead. As far as Avatar goes, one of his students took up his work and this guy is fucking incredible. I don't know if he'll be doing anything else, though.
