SNES and Genesis era, please. I know the obvious Mario/Sonic games.

Throw others at me.

Donkey Kong Country. The original.

Do you consider Super Metroid a sidescroller?

Mr. Gainsborough
posted 09-14-2006 05:15:20 PM
Metroid and DKC fall under the "I know about this shit and remember it" category.

Earthworm Jim is a good suggestion though!

Basically, I'm looking for oddball sidescrollers that I haven't played in a long time or ever. I found one the other day called Magical Pop'n for SNES. JP only I think, but it's damned fun.

the Altered Beast and Golden Axe games were cool for side-scrolling hack-'em-up's

Bonk's Adventure was good if you can find an emulator.

It's short, but oh god it's awesome.

And you know, since you're a Megaman fan and all, ZX came out yesterday for the DS. It's pretty good.

See also Soul Blazer, which is kind of a spiritual successor and a similar idea and also one of the fondest memories of my childhood. (And I have played it since and it still kicks ass.)

I guess it isn't a side-scroller or a platformer, but it's still undeniably awesome and everyone should play it.
