.. it's pretty damned fun. No, it's not out in the UK yet, I got it on digital download. Flying around in vehicles is great though it feels a little enclosed. Then again, the Doom3 engine is more geared towards enclosed areas than large open spaces.

I actually wish I hadn't played the demo, since you lose all that amazing suspense from the start of the story if you already know what's going to happen.

I'd definately suggest that anyone who moderately enjoyed Doom3, Quake4, or HL2 to get this game. It's supposed to be a little short (8-10 hours playtime) but I'm having great fun a couple of hours into it.

Buy this game if you enjoy:
  • Horrible character developments!
  • A plot that hardly ever progresses! Bonus: Also easily predictable!
  • A horrible feeling of disattachment from the story!
  • Bland, uninventive weapons!
  • An absolute lack of boss fights!
  • Almost zero challenge thanks to the fact you can never truly die!
  • That awesome Doom 3 enginhahahah!
  • A really stupid ending followed by a really pointless "secret ending"!
  • Tons and tons of time-wasting and pathetically easy physics puzzles! All the way to the very end of the game!
  • A really simple final boss!
  • A completely misleading demo with awesome music that you'll never hear again!
  • Uninventive multiplayer with a horrible lack of variety!
  • Wasting a lot (Note, I beat the game in two sittings over one night, actually not "a lot") of time!
  • A really annoying main character. Really, really annoying!
  • Halo-esqe level repetition!
  • Multitudes of endless, pointless "gauntlet" type challenges that provide a great artificial way to slow down your progression!
  • Did I mention the Doom 3 Engine?!

Clearly the best game for the PC this summer. Also coming to the X-Box 360, but renamed as "Halo 3" to serve the mouth-breathing, retarded fanboys! They'll never know the difference.

Everyone just quicksaves every 10 minutes and smacks quickload when they die in FPS's anyway. It's no different.

The rest of the points are pretty valid, but it's a decent timewaster. Not a blockbuster to be certain, though I never said it was.

I can understand what you're saying, but after thinking about it a bit, it's rather different. Quicksaving sets you back X minutes/seconds in time, so there is a true 'loss' if you die. In Prey, dying sets you back... twenty? seconds at the most. And then it throws you back in right where you left off with no progress lost.

Edit - I'm not even saying that it's a completely bad thing. It's actually rather progressive considering the nature of the quicksave.

Not really. You still don't want to die because you go through the annoying afterlife thing. It's quick but becomes a chore.

No boss fights?

Christ, I hate games with no boss fights.

I don't know how to be sexy. If I catch a girl looking at me and our eyes lock, I panic and open mine wider. Then I lick my lips and rub my genitals. And mouth the words "You're dead."

Actually, it has three. If you ask me, that is severely lacking for this type of game. They should have thrown all out sorts of gigantic ass-pounding monsters. Instead, the first boss took me roughly 2 minutes to destroy and it was pathetically easy. The second 'boss' fight was a bit more challenging, mostly thanks to the fact you just can't dodge most of it's attacks well, at all. Not that it mattered, twenty seconds later you're back with 50%-100% health!

Third and lass boss was just lame.

Esentially, instead of creating a new and interesting monster to fight, they substituted that with "gauntlet" challenges where 5-20 monsters will attack you, usually in groups of 2-4. It became so old, so fast.

Gah. I remember back when they were originally talking about prey (like back in 1995 or so), one of the core design philosophies was that you would face off against fewer but much tougher monsters.

11 years for prey to come out, wonder how good duke nukem forever is going to be ;D

Strange you should mention that. I hear the publisher gave the developers a $50000 incentive to finish the game this year.

That's odd, it crashes when it loads the level "The Complex", which I'm guessing is near the end of the game.

I'll just uninstall it and re-download it.

Digital download from TritonPC.

It's a new service, Prey is their first "big" game to be sold through it. I think they fucked up the download.

Completed it, Blackened was right on all points. Still had a moderate amount of fun, but it could've been so much more. Had great potential.

Two things.

1. Robotic spidermen than emerge from (and dive back into) giant fleshy vaginas on the walls, ceilings, and floors.
2. Ending borrowed from Half Life.

I thoroughly enjoyed Prey, despite any problems it suffered from. It could've been alot better though if they hadn't made it so damned easy with that OMFG BACK FROM THE DEAD minigame.

When a game is in development for almost a decade and is shoveled out either early or far too late avoiding its flaws is a lost cause.

Shit, what the fuck, weren't we promised innovative gravity-based puzzles and gameplay mechanics? SHOOT AT THE WALLS lol is all we got. Boss fights are where you shine with new technology and Prey only HAD THREE!

To be fair, 3D Realms completely canned the project not long after it started. Human Head approached them about reviving it. I don't think they (3D Realms) ever had any intention of doing anything with it.
