Apparently, no one my age has heard this song and this is depressing me.

Is there anyone here who has not heard the song or does not know what I'm talking about?

Oh come on, why should it depress you? It's an old song, not everybody studies musical history or cares.

I don't study musical history, either.

I think it's pretty classic. But then, it surprised me to find out a lot of my friends had never listened to Rush or heard a lot of the 80s pop I listen to.

I bet I could name off 30 different songs that you've never heard of with no effort whatsoever. Probably even some old ones or what I consider "classics." Who cares?

edit: besides you

Fuck Billy Joel.

It's not something people hear about.

Sometimes when I've had one too many I'll head down to the basement where all my musical junk is, completely convinced that I all of the sudden can play keyboards and sing, and I'll start "playing" Piano Man on one of my cheap-ass 80s Casios.

After 45 minutes or so I usually hear my wife yell down the stairs, "HEY! SHUT THE FUCK UP DOWN THERE!"

Man, people who don't know Piano Man are missing out. There's this little hole-in-the-wall dive that I used to go to with coworkers from time to time and every time Piano Man comes up on the jukebox we would all sing along. It's like I'm living a fucking musical.

Well, I guess this is as good a time to tell you as any: the last seven years of your life have been the longest-running off Broadway musical in the history of the world. It's called, "Everyone Gets Ebola and Shits Themselves to Death."

Uh, we haven't quite gotten to that part yet.

I have it as a ringtone on my phone. That's not assigned to anyone or anything.

I just have it so I can listen to it.

Dives like that are the best thing ever. My favorite drinking establishment when I was in college did the same thing, though the song was "Tequila Sheila." It's awesome when a whole bar full of people drink and sing along.

Eh. Piano Man was Ok.

Got old though.

Piano Man is good. I actually like a lot of Billy Joel's stuff.

Of course, Piano Man was parodied as "Ode To a Superhero," as a Spider-Man joke, by Weird Al.
