Aside from the obvious WinRAR, can any of you suggest an extraction utility that opens RAR files?

Why wouldn't you want WinRAR? It does the job just fine.

Although my distaste for you as a human being is brobdingnagian,

Perhaps it's the version I have, but it doesn't open files where I tell it to.

Even obscure and bizarre compression formats.

WinRAR has batch unzipping, though, so I love it too.
