"The activist insisted there was no reason for the security presence, because "the vast majority of people who were looting in New Orleans were doing so to feed their families or to get resources to get their families out of there. If I had a store with an inventory of insured belongings, and a tragedy happened, I would fling my doors open and tell everyone to take what they need: it is only stuff." "

Yeah, I bet that Plasma TV is DAMN tasty, and that Powerwheels that your son is rolling out of the Wallmart will really help keep his head above water.

Looting food, I can understand, hell I'd do it in that situation probably my girls mean the world to me. Even looting things like survival gear or camping gear to help you survive I can understand. It's still wrong, but I can understand it... But everyone has seen the pictures and videos of the stores being looted and robbed... There is actually still food on the shelves in a lot of those places, but what there ISN'T anything left of are things like TVs and Stereos and Games, Cameras, CDs, Movies, Jewelry, etc etc etc and crap. What are you going to do, take that TV home and plug it into the wall socket thats under two feet of water to catch the Late Show?.... Give me a break, a majority of the looting beyond food was just an excuse for lazy people who want something for free to get thier hands on it in the middle of the chaos. Face it, there were greedy, lazy, violent people having thier way with everyone else and everything else and they STILL are.

And being able to pawn that TV/Jewelry/CD for cash to live on while you find another place somewhere else you walked to because you have no car, and now no job, house and potentially family is a bad thing?

People know that the red cross or whatever will get them food and water. What they don't know is where they're going to live or what they're going to eat after they pull out. Getting a 200 dollar peice of jewelry from a store that's insured and pawning it somewhere in texas so you can land a job and start a new life sounds like a fair trade to me.

You're kidding right?.. Tell me you're kidding.

Okay explain the mentality behind the LA Looting during the LA Riots, where all the jewelry and electronics stores are being looted, or hell just about ANY senario where someplace is being looted in a non-crisis situation, and then again when it is a crisis situation.

Face it, they are lazy, greedy, oportunistic assholes taking the easy cut while the getting is good. It's not to pawn to start your life over again, I can't believe you'd actually believe that.

And you do realize even if the place they are robbing is insured, the company, and individuals still suffer significantly for thier greed. Insurance isn't some magical safety net that comes without a catch.

This shit fires me up. We (the aviation and navy here on this base in general) were, and still are being critisized because we didnt get there soon enough, according to public opinion.

Being in a cargo squadron, I can tell you that we can have one of our planes down there within hours of something like this. But I work on a plane the size of a Delta airliner. Thats what we're madde for.

A ship, on the other hand, takes a little bit more notice, even if they are underway, and they will usually take more than 3 hours to get there. We were there within 4 days of the hurricane making landfall and CNN decried the military for not responding fast enough. Hell, my squadron sent supplies handed in by our own members, and baby wipes, diapers, food staples, and cases of bottled water were handed back to us while junk food and candy was kept.

This little harridon needs to shut up and sit the fuck down. I dont see her trying to help anyone, and just because she knew someone who died in iraq really doesnt make her special. It was HIS choice to join the military, not hers, and nobody held a gun to his head to make him do it so standing behind a personal tragedy just inst going to fly.

Right. Cindy Sheehan didn't sacrifice a goddamn thing for this country and if she'd had it her way her son wouldn't have either.

In addition to her long history of deconstructionist anti-americanism, it's coming out now that she's also a rabid anti-semite.

Seeing as how I cannot locate a similar article on CNN, MSNBC, or CBS news, I'm going to have to call bullshit on this entire issue. Also, great news source...Worldnetdaily...an avowedly conservative tilted 'news' site that has a few worthwhile articles, but certainly likes to pick and choose what they talk about and how. Didn't we rip into Azziza for using this as his source a while back? And I certainly think with all the attention being paid to Cindy Sheehan, we'd have had multiple established networks trumpeting this volatile stance.

So until I see some corroborating articles that aren't from politically bent news sites or political blogs, thank you for playing, but nice try.

All she has done now is act in a way that shows her underlying issues. In other words now everyone can see that she is a flipping nut who is just using her Son as a springboard. Her own supporters are stepping back and saying WHAT THE FUCK!

Lets look at a few of her more... "Amusing" statements.

quote:
"if a human being is hungry, then it is up to another human being to feed him/her"

Not true. Not in any part of nature and not in the United States. If a human being is hungry it is up to themselves to find food. If another person chooses to help them then that is their prerogative. We do not live in a Communist or socialist society where everyone is responsible for everyone else. Last time I checked personal responsibility was still the rule of the land here.

quote:
"I saw soldiers walking around in patrols of 7 with their weapons slung on their backs. I wanted to ask one of them what it would take for one of them to shoot me."

I am sure a Psychologist could just tear this apart. She shows a disregard for anyone wearing the uniform and through he words has tried to lower them to the level of some butcher in a 3rd world country. But to answer her question, she would need to simply do what a lot of other people in NO were doing. Act in complete disregard for the law, grab a gun and start shooting at relief workers and people trying to get around. Then she would probably be shot.

quote:
The vast majority of people who were looting in New Orleans were doing so to feed their families or to get resources to get their families out of there

This just shows a complete and total disregard for reality. People down there have been talking about how food is being left on shelves while electronics are being cleared faster than a 1/2 off sale at Best Buy. I have no doubt that a good bit of the looting was for food, and I have a hard time faulting the people for doing this. However a lot of the looting was simply greed.

I found one persons comment on her blog especially Amusing.

quote:
In September of 1939, Hitler invades Poland and murders 5.8 million of it's citizens.

In September of 2005, Bush invades New Orleans and authorizes a $51.8 Billion Dollar Aid Package.

This is the same argument people bring in defense of Matt Drudge and I don't buy it. If you have no journalistic standards and just print anything that sounds like it will sell on flimsy evidence and unsubstatiated claims you're bound to sometimes, by sheer luck, 'break' a story that was not concrete enough for serious media to print.

Sources close to the president claim George Bush has not had sex with his wife in fifteen years.

George Bush complicit in Enron scandal? An investigation may be imminent according to experts.

Talk on Capitol Hill about Bush impeachement in connection with falsified evidence presented to Congress during 9/11 hearings is reaching critical mass.

Anonymous Bush aide: Governor snorted cocaine off my bare bosom.

Sex, Coke and Jesus : What Bush and Clinton don't want the American people to know.

Racism in the Whitheouse? Former intern reveals: Bush fired me for being Arab!

...

If I were to keep this up, I'd probably strike something somewhat resembling the truth at some point, then the real media would do all the investigative work and I could talk about how I broke the story for years to come.

Life... is like a box of chocolates. A cheap, thoughtless, perfunctory gift that nobody ever asks for. Unreturnable, because all you get back is another box of chocolates. You're stuck with this undefinable whipped-mint crap that you mindlessly wolf down when there's nothing else left to eat. Sure, once in a while, there's a peanut butter cup, or an English toffee. But they're gone too fast, the taste is fleeting. So you end up with nothing but broken bits, filled with hardened jelly and teeth-crunching nuts, and if you're desperate enough to eat those, all you've got left is a... is an empty box... filled with useless, brown paper wrappers.

Not necessarily, though an argument can be made that a large segment of the population is sociopathic, and fear of punishment is what keeps them in line. That's a whole 'nother thread, though.

To answer your question, 'opportunist' would be a better word. Social pressure keeps most people from being absolutely ruthless most of the time, though.
