I'm watching it now and I'm almost completely lost.

I didn't buy Season 3 because it was pretty lame and I'm kicking myself now. What happened that made Claudette and Dutch get canned again?

Also, Aceveda's a dick. I'm already thinking that Vic may find some pretty damning evidence as revenge...wink wink.

Hm. Up until the last few minutes of the episode, definitely a slower start than the other seasons got. It looks like they're seriously banking on the success of Glenn Close's character for the success of the season, since every plotline seems to intersect on her.

Which worries me, because the whole point of the show was that Vic was the main attraction, and the other plotlines were sideshows, albeit exceptionally well-made ones (see also: the Sopranos). As it is, the only part of the premiere that really excited me like previous seasons did was the confrontation between Vic and Shane.

I've read that it really gets rolling about episode 3 or 4, and that they needed a couple to get everyone re-introduced. I think that happened each of the last two seasons as well. This episode was slower than the end of last season, but that's the way of television -- you have to reintroduce the characters and start the chess pieces in motion to gain new viewers and explain what's changed to returning viewers.

Parce, Claudette learned that an assistant DA (or defender, I can't recall) was addicted to drugs and was high on the job. She pursued the case because it was the right thing to do and discovered one man who was wrongfully convicted. The resulting publicity, though, has been that hundreds of cases have been reopened and the DA's office is pissed. They don't want Claudette (and her partner Dutch by proxy) to be invilved in cases as a result.

And Season 3 was damn good. I'd go get it -- it wasn't lame at all.

I can't really think of anything to say about that episode. It had the usual slow pace of a season opener.. And then holy hell curveball ending.

That got me thinking last night.

Why did Lem and Ronnie join the strike team, and become like Vic? We know why Shane did; He's an asshole with no respect for the rules. And we know why Vic is like he is; He thinks he's doing the right thing, keeping Farmington in check.

What about Ronnie and Lem?

Ronnie hasn't really been a character, so I don't know.

Lem wasn't like Vic, got too close to being like, and left (after burning MILLIONS, of course). I would think it was because Vic always said it's bending the rules to make the streets safe, and greed added to the rationalizing made him change. Now I assume the promise of him taking down gangs "clean" with Vic being overseen by the new chief will lure him back, and now they will take down gangs to see Shane lurking behind Antoine.

That's my theory anyway.
