Greetings to any lurkers, sightseers or people otherwise looking to join our fine community.

I have taken it upon myself to write this humble guide for you, should you ever want to join us fully, in hopes of having your introduction be a little easier for everyone to cope with.

These aren't rules, by any means, but it would be in your best interests to follow these simple guidelines to reduce the strain your entrance may cause.

Enjoy your stay at EverCrest!

We love Introductions!
If you just come into a thread and start participating as if you've been in it all along, you're viewed with the same disdain as one might view an uninvited houseguest. It's rude and just plain bad taste.

Instead, why not create a thread to tell us about yourself? It can be as simple as a "Hi there, I'm new." But unless you make the effort to socialize, don't expect anyone to view you with any respect.

Spelling and Grammar are Equivalent to Intelligence.
You may be a genius. You may have cured cancer by grinding up the homeless, thus brilliantly solving two problems at once. However, if you come here and start talking like cyberluv242jk from AIM, expect one of two results: at best, everyone will ignore you and simply dismiss you as "that stupid new guy". At worst, you'll be publicly eviscerated.

Phrases/Grammatical Mistakes to Avoid using in EC
-"U" as "You"
-"B" as "Be"
-Substituting any number for a letter
-Internet slang such as j/k, b/c, etc.
-Not capitalizing

Your Opinions Count, but Not Right Now.
You may be a furry Wiccan pagan who hates Bush's foreign policy and hates Liberal's economic policies and you also loathe minorities but want to rebel against the majority, but do yourself a favor and keep that to yourself for now.

There are tons of discussions in EverCrest. More than a few of them turn into venomous fights between one or more parties. As a newcomer, you probably don't need to get involved in the politics of this board just yet. While it may take some pride swallowing, it's better to avoid voicing a potentially volatile opinion until you've got a better feel for the board.

If you manage to get into a fight it's probably a good idea to humbly back out of the thread. By humbly, I don't mean screaming how misunderstood you are, how big of a jerk the arguer is or how much sex you're getting off this board. A humble way to remove yourself includes: Apologizing for causing inconvenience and either leaving the thread or trying to steer back to the original topic, and the easiest way to back out is to just stop posting in that thread.

Conformity and You.
You may have been on other boards where you voiced your opinion constantly, regardless of whatever anyone might have to say, and that was okay there. You may have posted tons of hacks, pornography or other illicit material and that was fine there.

Here, however, we have certain rules, protocols and social standards. As the group, it's our job to tolerate you as long as you stay within those standards. As the newcomer, it's your job to stay in those standards.

As you grow in reputation and prowess here, you'll find that you can bend the social standards a bit, but it's certainly not wise to do it your first day here.

Bottom Line (and forgive the bluntness): You conform to us, not vice-versa.

Q&A
We've got a wealth of knowledge here at EC. We have a lawyer, a few military people, tons of computer gurus, video game strategists, future writers, alcoholics, ninjas, martial artists, whack-a-mole champions and Nae. You can learn a lot by asking a question here, and we welcome that!

However, we definitely appreciate it if you make the effort to introduce yourself before just signing on and demanding how to beat Dr. Robotnik in Crash Zone (Stage 3). If you don't, it's usually the same drill as coming in without an introduction: you'll either be ignored or reamed.

Getting Started
Assuming you've read all these guidelines, then here's an excellent way to start out your career here at EC.

Post an introduction in this very thread!

It's easy. Say what you'd like, and if you're not sure what that is, try any of the following: Your name, your favorite video game, your pets, or anything else you can make up.

Enjoy your stay here

For those older members reading this, I hope I'm not being too presumptuous, but I felt this would be a good change. Any feedback is welcome.

I love the word baffling. It sounds like 'affable', which is among my favorite words of all time.

However, it should also be known, that even though I was or am the most inflammatory fellow on the boards, I am also the most perceptive. How else could I infuriate the masses with only three words?

Pfft. I was banned for a while. Of course I only signed up initially because the GU Forums were hosted by Drysart for a while... I didn't really intend to join the EC forums... just happened to post a couple of times, piss people off, get banned because I told Drysart he could /gofuk and... well I'm not sure what happened after that or why I was allowed back in. I'm sure it's been a regretted decision ever snce.

Hey Guys, you may not know me because I dont remember whether I made a thread or not to introduce myself. Anyways, I'm 16 year's old and I am Gunslinger Moogle's younger brother. I play football and I swim for my highschool. Most recently my swim team made it into the state competition and on tuesday we are going to get our speedo-clad bottoms handed to us by Princeton-Prep.

I once attempted to write a poem and post it on here. Bloodsage said it was bad, but showed potential. I, needless to say, was deeply honored. I have made many an attempt of writing like my brother, but I have sense began writing realistic fiction as that seems to be the easiest form of fiction to write.

I felt the need to sign-up because Gunslinger showed me the way of Enemy Territory. I met some of you folks on there and you all welcomed me accordingly: "Who the hell is Manticore?" I, needless to say, was deeply honored. I had been reading the boards for about 3 or so months before posting, but ET caused me to register.

Upon my first week here I made a complete ass of myself trying to make friends with small witty comments that really were neither small nor witty. I still do, on occassion, make an ass out of myself (which seems to be tolerated in moderation)

Edit: Add indentions. Edit 2: Ok. That didn't work. extra space between

I feel introduction threads are stupid, shitty, and end up becoming circle jerks about how amazing the new 'newb' is in comparison to the regular types we get.

On the other coin, it'll be about how the newbie needs to change to fit in with EC.

Is there any need for an introduction thread? Many successful posters have managed to get by without a silly introduction thread. I feel they're just as useful and informative as any random question thread.

Yeah. Having never really experience any other forum besides this one until recently, I thought intro posts were all the rage all over the net.

But a lot of other boards don't like them. I guess I'm largely indifferent.
