I love those old comics. Dunno if those are genuine or not, but there are some real ringers out there. In the 50's (and even into the 60's) there was this "we must startle the readers!" fad. So there were issues where Superman died and you saw what happened to the world after, or the now-infamous first appearance of Superman Red/Superman Blue. Or what happens when you have eight bajillion different shades of Kryptonite.

If you want a fairly amusing read that contains stuff from the "old days" pick up the "Greatest Superman Stories Ever Told" anthology. It's worth a read, though none of it's in current continuity, and since it was compiled in the 90's it lacks some of the TRULY greatest Superman stories ever told ("Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow" is a big one).

Did anyone else watch the history of comic books on Discovery a few weeks ago? The stuff they were talking about what they weren't allowed to put in the comics at first was insane!

Well...in the first Batman story he drops out of a high-story window and brings his bootheel down on the side of the neck of a bad guy hanging out a window.
