I'm looking for good quality pictures. Resolution isn't of terrible importance, doesn't have to go super high. The size of the camera doesn't really matter, I won't be using it much outside the house. Ideally, I'm looking to pay $300 at the most.

Unfortunately I don't have a clue apart from that. Does anyone have a suggestion that could help the stupid Dane out?

if you are looking to take "personal pictures", i would say a 27x zoom lens is advisible, given your condition.

The Fuji Finepix series, Canon Powershot series (preferably the A60/A70, unless you want a compact camera) and Kodak's DX series are all good for low-priced mid-level digital cameras. From what I hear, anyway.

Is it a good camera, or is it so bad they have to give free shipping to get rid of it?

I've used the Fuji Finepix FP3800. It owns. It's about $300 last I checked. Very, very nice camera. 3.24MP etc~

Gateway Has a new line of Digital cameras. I haven't seen a real review on them yet but the 4MP version is only around 200 bucks!

For that little money, they will either be seriously flawed or very bare-boned.

Megapixels aren't the only thing to consider when factoring price, or quality. How well the sensor handles colors and overexposure, how well the camera focuses, and the range of features. That camera may very well be entirely manual, or it may not be able to focus correctly outside of a certain range, etc... those are just as important, if not moreso, as megapixels, for obvious reasons.

Then again, I'm thinking in terms of a year ago, so it may not be so bad in today's pricing.

That was incredibly stupid.

And Jens: The Fuji Finepix series is pretty good. I have a 1.3 Megapixel one, without any sort of zoom on it that works perfectly for around the house stuff (Though I may get a new one soon to take pictures when my brother is at his ball games and such so I can send em home, but thats another story)

But yeah...I'd say Fuji Finepix series

I heard they were made by Olympus.

I do not recommended the Fuji Finepix A303... the pictures blur far far too easily.

edit: It has a 3-4 second exposure time. If you manage to keep a steady hand in those 4 seconds, and if your subject doesn't move, then your picture comes out fine. Otherwise, forget it.

I don't know, but that does remind me, Olympus makes good cameras as well, I just haven't heard much about their latest offerings.

Nikon are top of the line in Film and High level digital cameras. But I have been really dissapointed with thier low and mid level consumer Digitals.

Personally I use a Nikon N80 as my Film Camera and a Minolta Dimage 7hi as my Digital.

Canon's got some good low-mid level digital cameras, which I think compete just fine with Fuji's offerings, if not surpass. Nikon's suck for low end for the most part, but yes, in high end digital (from what I've seen) they rock the casbah.

Yes Nikon's professional stuff rocks hard. Have pictures, will prove.

Not to hijack this thread, but which Nikon did you say you use Leck? I could swear you mentioned it in another thread but I can't find it.

I use the Nikon CP5700 and it never disapoints. It certainly isn't the D line but it is still quite good.

When my college lecturer was nice enough to let me use it I used our studio's D-100. I'm not an expert on digital cameras because I've not had the desire to go digital yet. Silver based photography is still as good as a high end digital, just requires a little more work.

That is the lowest level Nikon I would get. In fact I almost did. The only reason I got the minolta was that it didn't have a button activated zoom. I still prefer the SLR stule ring, which the Dimage has.

And Leck, the D-100 is a fine fine camera. I wish I could have afforded one. But my budget was 1300 and that was set in stone.

I would do quite a bit for a D100, or even better the new D2. Alas though I lack the money for the body or the lenses, so I just live with what I have.

All in all it's nice to use, but anyone can work a digital with enough use, I'd prefer to have something that requires a challenge and a bit of experimentation, as opposed to doing everything on the computer.

I never edit my digital camera's pictures.

Perhaps that's why they suck.

Interesting how the name is the acronym for the website, and the homepage links to the website, and the rezzed post has to do with products sold on the website.

If you're going to solicit on the message board, can we post on your website?
