I got $400 recently ($500 if I shop at Best Buy) and need something new to play music on. I saw a nice one the held 65 cds that I could afford, but there were also a few nice Mp3 players for sale.

I ask you people which one should I buy, stereo or Mp3 player. I'm also taking suggestions for which brands/models to purchase. Please help me...pretty please with sugar on top.

Oh shi...

...but...but it's so damn expensive.

Is it that much better than cheaper Mp3 players?

I think its just because its the most well-developed mp3 player out there. If you don't really care much about that, you can always go for the Archos Jukebox (20 GB), I know for a fact that its not that bad.

Zen -

Had the 20GB one for almost 4 months now, no clue how I survived with cd players/cassette players. They have a new 60gig one. Normally they run cheaper then iPods... also, if you were looking for a smaller Zen, more the iPod size, I believe next month they release this: Zen NX basically a smaller Zen.

Usually, the Zen's run cheaper then iPod

Wow, really?

Someday I need to go out and see if I can find a friend/place that would let me try the iPod out. It just never seemed like it was "far" better, but sounds like it might be that much better.

It really boils down to the software to transfer files to the player, and the interface on the player itself...

I happen to have an old player that uses MusicMatch Jukebox to transfer music, and doesn't even have ID3 tag display (or any name display for that matter)... Let me tell you, next to the iPod which mounts as just another hard drive and has the most awesome set of sort options to choose from... It ain't worth crap

Haven't seen the Zen, but the iPod is definitely awesome.

Nomad Jukebox 2 works fine for me.

I don't need more than 15gb.

USB 2.0 with ID3 tag support, and playlist organization was all I needed.

The smallest iPod I saw had like, 80gb.

And if you need a portable 80gb of MP3s.... I dunno, that seems way too much for me.

I think I broke my iPod. It's frozen displaying the do not disconnect screen (I need to learn to listen to what that litttle screen says). Anyone know how to fix this?

Hit "eject" in Musicmatch Jukebox.

I disconnected it, it stays the same. I reconnected it, my computer didn't want to believe that it exists.
