And wondering to myself.. "how the hell does boost work"

I'm wondering because I mash the square button, and when it gets to 90+ it stops, then drops back down.. am I suppose to bring it up to the number before it drops?

Hit the [] button until the finger has a X over it. Then stop. Then when the X disappears, hit the [] button again. If you hit the [] button too much when the finger is there, it drops back to 75.

The higher 'boost' is, the more power the GF has and the more damage it does.

If the little "pound the button" icon disappears, stop. If you keep hitting the button while it's not there, you lose all the boosting you've done.

It can appear more than once on some summons, so don't relax after it disappears.

Boost, number five on the list of things I don't like about FF8.

I believe in the existance of magic, not because I have seen proof of its existance, but because I refuse to live in a world where it does not exist.

Boost isn't worth it. It's the thing you toss off to give your GF's more abilities.

If you leave Boost alone, your GF will do it's basic damage, but, if you start hitting square even once, then the number you see is the percentage of the basic damage. So if you get around 90, then you will be doing less damage then if you left it alone. But if you did 140, then you would do 40% more damage, but your arm will start hurting from mashing the button so much so fast

Remember that bit in FF9 where Cid as a frog had to get the key from the Hedgehog Pie without it noticing? You had to press that one button to make him sneak forward when it wasn't looking and not move when it was looking or else it'll scare you away and you have to start over?

It's kinda like that.

Besides, after I got STR junction, I stopped using GF's all together and focused on Squall on being the unkillable death weapon

That's the one thing that puzzled me about FF games.

The main character inevitably became a one-man army capable of killing in the game with little or no outside help.

What I'd like to see is an FF game where you make a party like that, then you go beat the final boss, and after the main character shrugs him off and you think you've won the game and you're getting ready to have a self congradulatory beer, the main character goes power mad, kills off his group, and becomes the final boss of the REST of the game!

Then you assemble a NEW party with a NEW main character...

My method of playing : Play through the first part until you beat the SEED mission and become a SEED.

Go outside, fight along the beach shore. Kill the fish-in-sand thingamabobbers. If possible, junction thunder to your weapon to make the fights go faster. Make sure you get Shiva (Or was it Siren? I forget) her W-Mag-ref ability. Take all the fish fins you get from killing the fish, and turn 'em into water magic, as this early in the game, it junctions very well and is quite powerful.

Once you've gotten Squall's MAG up as far as possible, use the lamp Cid gives you and take on Diablos. Draw as much stuff from him with squall, as you can. Once you kill him, work him up until you have mug. Then play. Mug = invaluable, especially when you start upgrading weapons.

Oh, and Boost is good if you have a turbo controller. Otherwise it isn't worth it.

That was in the bad FF games.

FF8 was the only one like that. Every other one other than Tactics (GO CID!!) had to be used as a group.

There might be an occasion where having one character makes the whole group a shit load better, but it's not for alot of battles.

It's kind of like WC3. If you have a hero in the group, your group is ALOT more powerful then if you just send in normal units.

I mean what screen? After the little shortcut Selphie takes? Or before/after the bridge?

I think it appears after you get called back to the shore. Right after you defeat that monster on top of the satellite tower.

One of the named guards on top of tower activates it when you begin to leave. Then it jumps you.

There was a signature here... it's gone now.

For extra seed points: DO NOT use the shortcut that Selphie uses. It deducts points.
DO NOT talk to villagers. Everybody you talk to deducts a point.
There's only one place you can ACTUALLY kill the bloody thing. All other times you must run from it, or avoid it altogether.. And each time you encounter it when you COULD have avoided it deducts more points.

Save beforehand and learn the patterns. You'll thank yourself later.

Edit: Btw, the portion where he stomps and shakes the ground, stunning you, is the part where you have to walk in order for him to not stun you..

Thats all I can remember.

Also, it will chase you across a bridge. After you run a bit it'll jump over you and get in your way. After it jumps over you, wait for the sound of it landing then run in the opposite direction. As soon as it jumps again turn around again and run for the shore area.

It is one of the only two places where you MUST fight it, and where it wont run away... or something. Save and reset a lot.

Thats gonna be fun.. atleast killing 75 things would be fun, and getting Zell some magic only requires a prop for the controller, and a heavy object, the two of which I have

It can only be killed on the bridge, I beleive.

The seed points don't really matter, though. The tests are so pathetically easy, I laugh at anyone who fails 'em. Besides, Gil is nigh worthless in FF8 anyways. Anything I need, I either refine, mug, or kill to get.

Random FF8 trivia:

On the third disc, go back to Dollet and find the path that leads to the Communications Tower. There's a guard in the way, but you can bribe him by talking to him.

Make your way up the path. At one point, you'll be interrupted by the funniest scripted scene in the game. Retribution, baby!

Once more into the breach, my friends, once more. We'll close the wall with our dead. In peace, nothing so becomes a man as modesty and humility, but when the blast of war blows in our ears, then imitate the action of the tiger, summon up the blood, disguise fair nature with rage and lend the eye a terrible aspect.
