The problem was that I too have thick skin, so anything anyone said would not get through. Then I began to realize I couldn't necessarily find a reason to be mean anymore. I took a nap and I felt completely different when I woke up.
This absence of meanness may just be a phase as it's hard to break old habits, but we'll see as the time passes.
As to what happened to your obnoxiousness, I think you finally hit puberty.
