A monster of vaguely anthropoid outline, but with an octopuslike head, whose face was a mass of feelers, a scaly, rubbery-looking body, prodigious claws on hind and fore feet, and long, narrow wings behind. This thing . . . was of a somewhat bloated corpulence . . . . It lumbered slobberingly into sight and gropingly squeezed its gelatinous green immensity through the black doorway . . . . A mountain walked or stumbled

It's all about the high end warriors, baby.

up to 8 attacks a round (un-hasted), an average minimum of 20 points per attack and some really healthy bonuses to attack rolls based on epic weapons and the like.

Against a Wizard, that would be something else... but a single level 40 wizard would be able to "solo" him... the wiz would lose SEVERAL levels, but it's doable with the right spell combo.

I would never say a PC would kill him, but there are a couple beasties out there who would kick his ass...In DnD terms of course

Sure.

A Mind Flayer would probably be able to hold out for a good amount of time.

Psions are really the only PC I can think of that would even get in more than one attack unless said PC was level 50 or something. They have such control of their mind that they'd be very hard to mess with.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the self discipline of monks. Still, it would take a whole party of psions and monks (maybe multiclassing monk/psions) at least level 40 or so. Yeah, I realize his CR is 34, but I think that's misleading.

Here's the theory Malkav and I have come up with for killing him.

Monk/Psions using Unaviodable Strike.

His AC based on Size and Dex (not counting natural AC, which makes up the rest of his AC) is 3.

(Side note: Touch attacks r0><0r>
(Side note 2: This is just based on the info given.)

By the time you'd reach Cthulhu, or have become lvl 40 (which is pretty impossible) yu'd have an extremely low Sanity. Meaning, there would be a high chance of failing a Sanity roll. Once you lost 20% of your Sanity, which is a good chance, you would go temprarily insane which would drop scores, or cause you to become an NPC for a while. In the mean time, Cthulhu would be able to kill you. Or your Sanity would reach 0 and you'd become an NPC and just remain a gurgling pile of madness for ever.

Since Malkav went home I'll just say this:

It was a nice thought while it lasted, I don't have the skills to back it up further on my own.
