what was that link to the site that would test your connections up and down speed? I want to test my mom's DSL, though it probably will be blown out of the water by my dad's cable.

Through cnet.com
Cable 1590kbps on average
DSL 472kbps average

I'm just curious about the exact scores on it.

What's this thing do?
That would be sooo cool if it wasn't going to hurt us.

The cable clocks in at just under 200 ks/s--good for cable, but I don't know if it's peak hours there. If so, bravo.

DSL clocks in at exactly 59 ks/s (well, exactly meaning "roughly"; I don't think it's an exact science). About average for DSL. It sacrafices speed on the speed/cost scale for kickass stability.

Anyway, www.dslreports.com or whatever has speedtests. I found one that had a big list of locations to find one local to you...just a second.
