A friend of mine from work told me yesterday that his sister will be going to the US to work as a Camp Counsellor for a disabled children's camp during the summer there (late May to July or so... I think), and that after that she will be travelling around the US for a couple of months.

If there are any EC folks who are willing to put up an Aussie traveller for a couple of days and maybe show her a few of the local sights etc, could you please PM me so I can forward your details to my friend and his sister to follow up. She was kinda thinking of staying at backpacker motels, YMCA/YWCA, etc.. but I'm kinda hoping that there are some folks here that can offer a hand too. She has mentioned she would be willing to help pay for accomodation, etc while staying over.

Currently her itenary(sp??) is open after her camp work (she'll be based about 30 miles north of St Louis, MI... if anyone is around there that might be able to play guide etc on spare days??) although she might be spending some time in San Antonio. However I've been told she also would like to see San Diego and San Francisco on the west coast (she's been to LA before though, so she may only just pass through there quickly this time around), as well as various other places.

Cities also mentioned that she would like to see (apart from those above) are: New Orleans, New York, and Houston. I'm trying to find out what other places she really wants to see too, and will update those here as the info comes to me.

Synny, I'm not sure where in New Jersey you are, but he did mention his sister wanted to try to go to New York to see "Ground Zero" and, if anything is done, the rememberances etc on 9/11 for the 'anniversary'. Could you (or anyone else in the NY area) please contact me via PM cos I know she'd really appreciate having a guide etc there.

Thanks folks. It is much appreciated.

Id gladly help if she was coming to the NC area. Would be fun for me too, and my grandparents have a spare room they would gladly share.

Sure, we may not have much, but there ARE at least a few interesting things here. hehe

I worked a block from "ground zero", and live an hour from there by train/subway combination. With my current living situation, I can't do much. However, if I manage to get an apartment by the end of the summer, I'll let you know.

To be honest, I never found NYC very impressive. But that's me. I rarely find anything impressive for long. So I might not be the best tour guide anyhow. Though I'd reccommend bringing gas masks. From what I understand, the site still has a rancid stench to it. I haven't been back there since Sept 20th personally.

Since she's heading over to this general part of the country, if she wants to see Vegas for a day or two, I'm willing to play tour guide. I'm sure between myself, Nae, UBT and Josh we can keep her entertained....and maybe even alive to boot.

You smell that? Do you smell that? ...Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory.

Although, now that I think of it, we haven't gone to Gameworks in a while. You couldn't use your "But I'm not 21 excuse there."

I still feel horribly stupid about that. Did you HAVE to bring it up?

Oh, come on.

We all know how everyone is just dying to see Maine!!

Yeah, I'd be up for a visit to Gameworks some Friday or Saturday night. We just need to ensure that Socialism Boy there doesn't end up at a similarly named business on the other side of town.

Oh, yes, everybody loves Maine.

Heh, if she DID come up here, though, and I weren't 15, I'd try to show her around some.

Yes, I plan on catching the 4 pm-ish showing near my house after I get off work tomorrow. I am cautiously optimistic that the movie will be good.
