Delete Kernal32.dll

(I assume no liability for the damages that will be caused by taking my advice)

restore a fresh copy of it from the original cd maybe? These instructions are taken from McAfee's virus library, in particular the snow white virus.

Windows 98/2000
- Click the START MENU|RUN, type SFC and click OK.
- Choose Extract one file from the installation disk
- Type C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WSOCK32.DLL in the box and click Start.
- In the Restore from box type C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS or browse to the Win98 directory on your Windows98 CD-ROM
- Click OK and follow remaining prompts

Wsock32.dll file exists within the Precopy1.cab cabinet file on the Windows 98 CD-ROM.

I'm sure SFC could be used for any other file as well.

Switch to Linux

Or, if you want something less drastic, try to remember what you last installed before the problems started, and try uninstalling it. Afterwords, try using a good registry cleaner (MS's Regclean, Symantec's WinDoctor, etc.).

Or, back up all data you need, and reinstall windows from scratch, then re-install just the apps you need.

It can be amazing how much more stable windows can be if you re-install from scratch about once a year.

kernel32.dll is used for memory management in Windows. If you get errors in it all the time from all kinds of programs, it is possible it needs to be replaced, but usually it is an external program causing the problem.

Use MSCONFIG to try and isolate external programs.

START > RUN > type MSCONFIG. Change from Normal Startup to Selective Startup and turn off your Load Startup Group. If you don't get the error any more then you know the culprit lies in the Startup Group and can isolate the issue further by using the Startup tab in MSCONFIG to turn off and on selective programs.

Kernel32.dll is crashing? Oh no! You must have somehow crossed the dark gods. The only way to fix this problem is to eat a paste of peanut butter and vinegar, and then do the ritual Dance of Odin. You also might have to sacrifice some sheep. Good luck!
