I grabbed the demo yesterday (yes, after all this time, I know I'm cheap) and I'm wondering if it's actually worth buying, or just gets boring after 2 weeks.

It gets boring after two weeks. But you come back to it every month or so to grab the new patch and see how many new weird rulesets are out that completely f#$% with the gameplay.

Tribes 2 requires more strategy than any other first person shooter out there.

If you like to think on your feet rather than just point and shoot at anything that moves, if you like fighting on a nearly endless (and endlessly diverse) landscape, if you like driving anti-gravity vehicles, if you like extreme mobility, if you put teamwork ahead of frag counts, or if you're good at projectile physics, you'll love Tribes 2.

Tribes has held my interest longer than any other game I've ever owned, except maybe EQ.

i totally agree with maradon , our clan worked for weeks training each member and then seeing what they are best at and puting them to work . I was the duel style combat person and engineer at large (shifter mod) ,
i came back this year to look at the pieces of history we left behind and the great tactics we came up with , they are used still but its great to see a couple of my methods still being used. I need an upgrade before i start to play T2 though , which i hopefully will get next month. Tribes is a great game and im wondering if the pieces of T2 i played are as good as they seemed. I also noticed another thing , are clan was more of a come and go thing so it broke down after a year and half , but i see small clans that look like our old members with new names , though none of them would remember my new name im sure they would remember the clan name . Tribes is a great game and i hope T2 is even better . my advice is if you can play it , buy it. I tried one of those little bikes the time i got to play at a friends house and it rammed a turret and destroyed it , i think ill work on vehicle op if my clan has rebuilt in T2.

Tribes is more like playing RL tournament paintball than playing a FPS. Without the welts and bruises.

Well yeah, but only if you carry around deployable paintball turrets, three classes of paintball-armor with corresponding weapon capacity, paintball vehicles that travel at high speeds or shoot paintball mortars or drop paintball bombs, and everyone has jetpacks.

And you have paintball generators that supply your paintball guns and power your base mounted paintball turrets and force fields.

Vehicles that shoot paintball mortars always leave those big welts. The kind that seem to just linger around for a couple weeks.

True, but your discription of: thinking on your feet, mobility, teamwork, and projectile physics describes tournament paintball to a T. If you're good at one, you'd likely enjoy the other, but tournament paintball does require a bit more physical effort.

I like tribes 1 better...i get many many e-mails each day for people wanting me to join their clan because of my extremely l337 sniping skills (script: numbergoeshere people have now been killed for foolishly opposing the l337-ness of the Penguin)

Tribes 1 is widely regarded as a beta for Tribes 2. T2 is better in every possible way

Yea, I'd play it just to look at the cloaking and vehicule spawn animations. I might get it anyway, it's just that it's Black & White against Tribes II for me.

tribes is win

seriously, i've always hated fps games like quake and doom and half-life, but tribes owns all. the strategy and comraderie and skill involved provide a unique environment like none on the market that i've seen. plus you dont have to commit 5 to 10 hours a night to get your fix =)

Tribes RPG is a mod for Tribes 1 that utterly changes the entire game. A review for it in PCGamer conveyed just how astounded they were at how far from Tribes 1 the mod had taken the game.

Unfortunatly, it's still server based, so if you log off you lose your character.
