Well, My day started off with my being an hour late to work. Noting that I should have realized other bad things were coming.
Morning Hours
Basically people just wouldnt leave me alone. This one guy kept walk into my office bitching about this and that, playing with a yo-yo. He was constantly looking over my shoulder and peeking in through a small office-side window next to my desk to try to see my monitor. It got so bad that I almost, jumped up and punch the guy and screamed, "STOP PLAYING WITH THE YO-YO AND DO IT YOURSELF!" I knew tension was building fast between everyone.
Lunch Time
Well, I decided to goto Lunch around 11:30 so I could beat the Westhiemer traffic. Get up from my desk and he walks in again. He asks me to do something, so I do it get up again to leave and he shows up. This goes on for 50 MINUTES! It stops when he finally decides his is hungry and me and a bunch of other guys leave for a resturant known as "Good Eats." I personally am not too fond of this resturant, but the food is ok so I go. Well we get there and it is a 20 minute wait. Ok.. no prob, we finally get seated and the waiter shows up. He takes our orders and leaves, returning shortly with our drinks, although there is one problem, this place gives you free rolls to eat before your meal. No rolls...... Quite a while goes by and he finally remembers the rolls, we start eating them and BOOM! he shows up with the food. That didnt make us too happy. He continued like this forgetting peoples requests or being slow on them. Then we finally finish and since we were in the non-smoking section, we asked for the smoking, we head to the bar. Well, the dude comes back with the check and hunts us all down taking our portion. As we leave one of the guys I was eatting with tells us he had to grab 10 more bucks because someone didnt pay. Well, I knew everyone paid, turns out the guy pocketed one of the $10 bills we gave him, and had someone else charge it on their card.... not to mention the $2 tip will all gave him amounting to a $22 tip on a $55 meal.
Return to the Office - Early Afternoon
We get back and all hell breaks lose. The guys on one team started pointing the finger at my team and placing blame on us for the things going wrong. Not our fault they were not testing what they did on top of our stuff. The arguements got so bad that I was placed under orders to walk away if anything else started.
Administaff Orientation - Just before 5
Now this is the big one.
Ok, here is the deal. The company I work for decided to "co-employ" with another company called "Administaff". Basically here is how it works. I am placed on Adminstaff's payroll and I am "Leased" to Tenaid to do work for them. This idea doesnt sit well with me, because reading the papers We had to sign else we lose our job informed us all that not only could Tenaid lay us off, but so could Administaff. Talk about Big Brother.
But it gets better...... I've known about this for a few weeks now and was actually really really excited about it. The benefits package with Administaff beat the hell out of the one Tenaid was giving me. Or so I thought....
Well.. they start discussing the benefits package and they got to the 401K plan. WOOHOO! We had been talking about this at the office for awhile and everyone was excited because it beat what we currently had which was a Simple IRA. Well.... The Administaff Rep read the first requirement.
quote:
- Must be 21 years old
Well, the room goes dead and everyone realizes something.... I am under 21. So the rep is talking on and someone finally speaks up and asks if a person is under 21 but meets the other requirements can they still get the 401K. She laughs and says no, at that point she realizes that everyone is looking at me and she gets this "Oh Shit" look on her face. I knew the other Tenaid employees knew what was going through my mind at that point.
Basically here it goes. Before hand, I had the Company Sponsored Simple IRA. They dropped the Simple IRA when going with Administaff in favor of the 401K. Well, I couldnt use the 401K plan and the Simple IRA was dropped, which makes it do better than a Savings Account that I cant withdrawl money from. So now, I had Pre-Tax dollars going into the Simple IRA, now if I want to continue I have to put After Tax dollars in.... AFTER TAX DOLLARS BAD IN SIMPLE IRA!!!!! Oh.. I also lost Company Matching with the Simple IRA, which ofcourse we got with the 401K.. THAT I FUCKING CANT HAVE FOR 2 YEARS! So basically I just got screwed hard.
So I figure.. ok ok... Administaff is a Big Company, they have a back up plan for someone in my situation, so I approach the Rep after the meeting and ask. Basically she said no, I asked why, and she said I make up for like -5% of Administaff, in other words... I mean jack shit. She also informed me that I was the first person she had ever met at my age in the tax bracket that I am in. I was hoping to get this 401K not only for the retirement, but also for the Non-Taxable income it generates, which is more then the IRA, that would help me come Income Tax time because I am in a fairly high tax bracket for my age and run a very high risk of paying in at the end of the year for it.
First they get me all excited, failing to tell me I wouldnt get it, then had no back up plan for me because I was the only person in that situation. They *knew* I wasnt going to get it, god damn it, they should have told me.

/me gives Pesco a fresh jar of Vaseline
At my company, at the last benefits meeting, they simply CUT all benefits for the part timers, effective immediately, with no option from the company to pay for it.
They determined "part-time" status not by your employment agreement, but by the average of how many hours you've worked in a nondisclosed period, so some full timers that found their hours inexplicably dwindling, found themselves reduced to "part-time", with suddenly NO benefits, health insurance, nothing. Nuclear explosions aren't that swift.
I feel for ya, Pesco... that rates 17.4 on the 1 to 10 Suckage meter.

Oops... need to clarify; I'm trained on all product lines in my deptartment so I get worked 45+ hours a week. I still have MY benefits, but there are a lot of part-timers that work here, many of them with kids and needless to say, were not terribly happy when this news came down...
ACK! A manager just came by and asked "You have 24/7 avasilability, right?" I had no choice but to say "Well, yes..." but then as he left I screamed at him "That doesn't mean you can change what I put on my availability sheet!"
I put until 11 pm on my sheet, and requested Sundays off... I can tell how this is going to end... hm, Brian's 24/7, with his own car and no wife/family/obligations! LET'S WORK HIM LIKE A RENTED MULE!!
Sigh.. someone female come down here and marry me so I can get you pregnant and not be worked into the ground...
