Till I fly out to California for a job interview tomorrow (with Blizzard, for a Tech support position)

Im nervous and excited about the interview.

Happy I have a shot at the job.

Sad that I would have to leave family to take the job.

So...im not gonna be around for a couple days

Hrm... what part of California?

Heh, I'm trying to add to the number of EC members I've actually met.

Irvine... erm...

Tries to think of that in relation to San Diego and fails.

Err... right.

Take it, Fal.

Hey, I'll be in Cali, too!!!!
hehe. San Francisco, though.

But really...You only live once.
Take a shot at it. Plus, CA is a purdy place. Maybe you'll meet someone nice.

Me and my grandpa just sat down and talked about this.

Yes, this IS a good opporotunity.

Thing is, it IS only temporary. no guarantee ill have a job in a month or two.

Yes, this is a dream of mine, to work with Blizzard.

Also, the money I would be making would be enough to get by - thats it.

And also, my resume DID have something that caught their eye and got me a call for an interview...which means at least that I know I am good enough for a position with them.

I have about 2 hours to decide...

I'd do it.

So what if it's only temporary? It sounds like a great job for the time being. Especially if it's one of your dreams. Hey, worth a shot if you ask me.

Thats my problem. I want to take it, i really do.

Thing is, can I afford to take it? Can I afford the risk? What if it doesnt work out?

Ive decided...for now...to finish school.

Doing that will be worth much more than one year of working...

One of the biggest decisions of anyone's life is whether or not to "Finish School or Follow Your Dreams."

Personally, I think you made a good choice. If they're interested now, I'd imagine they'll be even more interested when you have more school under your belt.

Finish school, then look them up again.

You made the same choice I would have, in the same circumstances.

I totally agree with Bajah, Fal.

The computer game industry is exciting, colorful, and fun. It's also very transient. A temp job can become a "permanent" position... but just as easily, a permanent position can become temporary. Trust me - I know. You have made a very wise choice, banking on your *education*.

To satisfy your curiosity, the Blizzard offices are on the lower floor of an office building of darkened glass near the freeway. Inside there are some cool cardboard standups from Warcraft and Diablo and Starcraft. Just inside there are the tester terminals where their beta testers work. Beyond that is the development area. Anyone who's ever been to a game or comic book company could tell you just what it looks like Action figures, posters, empty pop cans, etc. The area they are in, Irvine, is pretty but sorta bland. All the buildings have that same spanish-stucco look (zoning laws require it!). The beaches in the area are great and there are some good concerts at Irvine Meadows. However, Blizzard is the only decent game company in that area of CA. If things didn't work out, your options would be limited.

As Bajah said, it will still be there after you've completed your education. If not, then it wasn't worth sacrificing your education for. When you're ready, you will have a *much* better salary (if not job security) and far more options, and all the advantages that confidence brings.

Good luck.

This board is restoring my faith in the young. You guys are right on.

School's always the best thing, Fal. It's getting to where you can't get a good job unless you've got college under your belt.
