"You have a secret admierer, come to CrushLink to find out who it is!"
And get this - In order to find out who it is, I have to list ALL the people that I have a crush on (and their e-mail address). If I happen to guess the person who sent me the e-mail, I find out who it is.
BUT....If I DON'T guess who it is, all of the people that I listed are e-mailed and told that "someone" likes them.
Who did this??!
Em's all angry about it! LOL! If it's a scam why ya so angry Em? Huh? HUH? ROFL!!!!!!
Ozius
P.S. Dunno WHY I find this so funny!

Hmm... nope. It was actually Mortious in the Ballroom with the (_|_)
It says to "click here" to find out who has a crush on you. When you click there, it takes you to a page that said, "Register now and we'll tell you who your secret admirer is". That led to a screen that says essentially, "Enter the emails of 5 people who may have a crush on you. If one of them is the one who does, we'll tell you. If not, we'll email all of them."
It also claims that if you enter 5 and none are correct, it will give you a hint. However it has 5 slots, and always claims that it could not reach all 5 email addresses (and will therefore not give you a hint), even if it accepted each of the 5 email addresses in prior submissions. Therefore it never gives you a hint.
Curious and paranoid as I am, I filled in all fake email addresses, all on the server "@jackass.net", and used a (very obviously) fake name for myself (along with the email address I got the original message in).
I read their FAQ, and there was no listed means of deregistering. So I sent them a threatening message, claiming I'd sue if they sent me anything again ever. Their 'automated reply' arrived less than a minute later with a bunch of other FAQ, including a link to a deregister page. They haven't bothered me since.
So just don't bother.
quote:And since the proper term is 'deregister', they manage to claim that the "un-registration page" is not actually hidden, therefore legal, while not making it available unless you spend the time to write them an email.
From 'Re: Fraud?', the auto-reply to my threatening email:
* I registered but now I'd like to un-register. What do I do? *You may un-register at http://www.CrushLink.com/unregisteruser.php3
If you would like to use the service in the future, register again!
Note: Please use this easy method to un-register as our customer
service reps will not respond to any "un-register me" messages
Oh, and my message above isn't totally accurate. After I got the message with the additional FAQ, I received two completely useless (and identical) 'hints'. This was about two hours after I registered.
