I absolutely love(hate) AO!

The visuals are stunning(lag like hell)! I can run certain areas, like missions, in 1600x1200--wow!--yet others crawl with all settings minimized.

Speaking of missions, the individual missions roXor!

I hope they get the lag worked out soon--I want to enjoy the visuals at something more than .1 fps. I, I think I'm hooked. . .like EQ when it first came out, only cooler. Funcom certainly incorporated many of EQ's lessons learned, but seem to lack Verant's hardware expertise.

Frustratingly awesome. I'm sticking to missions until the countryside is less laggy, but it's still a great solo adventure.

This game is on my Hit-List. I refuse to buy any other games, however, until I upgrade my computer.

Good idea. Even with a (fairly) uber system, AO grinds to a halt occasionally. I can't even imagine playing with anything near the minimum system. /shudder

But it's an awesome game even with the current flaws, and looks to get better if they fix the lag.

When you buy, be sure to buy from Electronics Boutique! There are problems with the CD keys not working, and it's a lot easier to exchange the game for a new copy than wait for Funcom to send you a new key electronically! And be prepared for some installation strangeness. Just a warning.

Bloodsage appreciates Peachis' lonliness. He contemplates aloneness. Yet he still recommends AO over EQ.

I gave up on it when Beta4 crashed so hard I was told that the only way to solve it was to reformat (After all the other install/uninstall/patch/try to manually patch/etc shit)

I'll wait for at least another 3 to 6 months before I look at it again.

Hell, I didn't really play EQ this weekend. I spent some time playing Anachronox and D2X.... Anach got uninstalled though. Got to the hive and had to cheat to get past the little 'arcade game' sequence because I couldn't reload the damned lasers, and then when I got to the hive queen the game completely locked up every time I beat her.... after the 4th crater I decided to backup my saves and rip it out.... probally a problem with me being on Win2k.

I still think I'd like EQ better. I'm more interested in the swords-and-sorcery stuff than the sci-fi stuff with guns and that. What would you rather have, a semi-long, action-packed sword duel, or a gunfight that lasts two seconds, going so fast that you don't even notice any of the action?

And you know what? Why would they put the option to solo and do well in AO? It's massively multiplayer for a reason. I think that if they just wanted people to solo their way through the game, they should have made it single player with the option to play it as an MMORPG. Sort of like what Blizzard does with their games. If EQ were meant to solo in, I'm sure Verant would've implemented Single Player beyond the tutorial.

That's my big problem in AO. Those that have realized that grouping is better won't be able to find any groups. If they announce they're LFG, they'll probably get messages of "d00d y don't u solo? it's better".

Although some hate the "forced" grouping in EQ, I like it. Y'know what? It ISN'T forced. You can solo to a really high level. Hell, Warriors can solo from 1-45. But if you want to rise in level quickly, you need to group.

I still haven't reached my personal 'End-game' in EQ. This will certainly not come until I am at least a Grandmaster. For me, it's going quite slow, as I am still just level 43, but I'm now hunting in Cobaltscar so maybe that'll change. Wyverns can triple(yes, I said triple) attack for 106 each hit, and they're BLUE. You stay away from Cobalt Drakes though, even the level 60s do. They hit for like 200 and proc a DD that does around 300-500 damage, I was only hit by it once before I learned my lesson, so not sure if those figures are acurate.

But I digress...

Until I reach my 'End-game' or just get totally and completely BORED, I'll be sticking with EQ for quite a while...oh yeah, I'd scrap EQ in a heartbeat for Star Wars Galaxies

I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl, we ate lobster, drank piƱa coladas. At sunset, we made love like sea otters. That was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over, and over?

Actually Peachis you might make a new friend or two. I am giving up on AO and coming back to EQ (which I haven't played in at least a year!) I would really like to like AO but my gaming time is limited, and my GF and I would really like to be able to *play* when we have the time, not fight lag/bugs/logins the whole time. Hope to see you and any other EC'ers in there
