From the august issue of Popular Science:

Super Trooper
Too much armor weighs a soldier down. Too little and you might as well hand out bull's-eyes. But the advent of "exoskeletons" may offer the best of both worlds.
These wearable machines are part of an initiative by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency called "Exoskeletons for Human Performance Augmentation." Over the next five years, six contractors will develop self-powered devices that amplify the speed, strength, and endurance of ground troops. One company is even putting together a one-person vertical takeoff and landing vehicle.

The article is longer but I don't feel like typing it all

You know, no response at all would have been preferable to unwarranted sarcasm.

No, more like the 1960 Hugo winner written by Robert Heinlein called Starship Troopers. It was at one time required reading for one of the branches of the military (Marines?). Read it, it'll make you think (it'll also make you go "WTF?!?" in reguards to how little of it was actually in the movie).

If you Like Starship troopers, I recomend Reading:

Forever War By Joe Halderman
Armour By John Steakley
Also The Midshipmans Hope series by David Feintuch

I have read all of those. Armor is a great book btw. Look at some of Card's books, the Ender's Game series is very good.

Glitter Boys, in the Rifts RPG.

Walking powered armor with a big shoulder mounted cannon. Basically: one person, walking tanks.

True, true... but I thought the Juicer concept quite interesting. Scarry thing is that alot of it can be done (nanites excluded). Also in Rifts there is the Titan Juicer (see Juicer Uprising source book), they are so tough that they are MD (mega damage) class. Can you tell I used to run rifts?

For great military combat books set in the near future read The Heritage Trilogy ~ Semper Mars, Luna Marine, Europa Strike by Ian Douglas, great great books

I think that we sohuld all just develop such extensive anti-gun defenses that we all have to battle hand to hand myself =)

But before that happens I want to ride the last bomb!

(1) GB's are walking armored devisions. The boom gun is not something to toy with.

(2) Juicers (one of my fav classes) were far more annoying.... You can see GB's comming due to their HIGHLY reflective armor.

(3) And I believe that GB's are MD by default Stymie... At least the BoomGun deals on MD scale... (hell, it takes down Xitix (can't remember the spelling... hrm) warriors in less than one shot and they're MD creatures....

Rifts has got to be my all-time favorite RPG I love the never ending variety of STUFF that's available, and at a much cheaper cost per page count than T$R

<--- Owns all Rifts books, and is slowly amassing all Palladium Fantasy as well

Oh, and Starship Troopers was certainly the basis for all this power armor/exoskeleton stuff....

No fair! You have Rifts, you must share!!

No one around me runs a game for more than a couple of week, month at the most... When I was in HS we had weekend games that would usually be 12 to 36 hours of gaming... and then, maybe, some sleep.....

Gitter Boys kick ass. They have more armour than everything but the largest of troop transports! Talk about built to last...

Yah, but you throw mud on them, and the pilots will hunt you down to the ends of the earth.

My character was good at leading them into traps by doing stuff like that. For the few sessions we played. (wants to play again!)

Small hint.... They're useless if they can't get thoes 3 foot pylons to engage.

When the BoomGun goes to fire, there's a 6 inch spike at each toe and a 3 foot pylon at each heal that MUST activate and the booster pack on their back must show a green status before the gun can be used.... If you keep them from activating the foot gear OR clog up the pack, they're *hosed*...

Also remember, beam weapons are useless unless you're bouncing shots off the GB to annoy him.... hehehehehe

Your average GB isn't all that good at getting something off of its back either. Nothing makes 'em sweat like a were-panther clinging to the back of the suit and using power tools to perma-jam the suit shut.

I think tricks like that are why the GM gave up. He was so sure that his opponents for us would be super tough, and then we fought dirty as hell.
