It is merely a painting. A really, really creepy painting. And I'm only posting this because they (they, being the guys in the chat room) force me to share it here.

That is, of course, the idea.
While it is a spooky painting, I'd be willing to bet that's all it is. The story was obviously cooked up as a plot to pique interest and start a bidding frenzy.
The effect in the last two pictures could easily be achieved through infrared or ultraviolet lighting.
