No, it isn't April 1st.

http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20121030006384/en/Disney-Acquire-Lucasfilm-Ltd. <- won't let me link, just copypasta

Apparently George always planned this to happen "sometime before his death" so the franchise could live on and he already had a very good relationship with the Disney corporation.

This could actually be a good thing as Disney wants to make new movies and George will just be a creative consultant. He won't even be writing the scripts, he says as long as the writers adhere to his outline of the stories he had planned for 7-8-9 he doesn't really mind. He won't be directing or producing.

So in other words, they might actually be good. Empire Strikes Back is the best one and had only minimal input from George, so let's hope lightning strikes twice.

Yeah, CBTao and I were discussing this on facebook.

Listening to the EP1-3 brainstorming sessions where Lucas rambles on about how JarJar is the key to audience sympathy and a focal point of the story really says all you need to know about how out of touch he is. How could it get any worse?

Well, apart from being made a vehicle for whatever child actor Disney has chosen to play helicopter parent for. Could you see Justin Bieber in EP1 starring beside Miley Cyrus?

Looking forward to the new Plinkett reviews!

Edit: Kudos to Lucas for giving the money to charity.

At first I was like

Then I was like

Now I'm like

I mean, Disney has a pretty solid track record, John Carter aside, of making good sci-fantasy movies. And from what I hear John Carter was more of a marketing/titling disaster than a bad movie.

And the Marvel movies have been pretty good too. They know how rabid the fans are out there. They should do fine (I hope)

It says a lot about a franchise when you care more about the Plinkett review than the movie itself.

Here's to hope Star Wars will go the way of Marvel and get better.

I like your thinking.

Love is hard, harder than steel and thrice as cruel. It is as inexorable as the tides and life and death alike follow in its wake. -Phèdre nó Delaunay, Kushiel's Chosen
