We're about 5 hours in so far, and a few bosses have been difficult in the sense that they have large health bars and their attacks hurt more than normal thugs.
The thing is, death seems to mean that you respawn just outside the boss's room, with more ammo and no resetting/life gaining from the boss inside.
The game is fun, but it feels like we can't lose.
Without the sense of penalty and having to start over once we've died the game loses the sense of achievement when the boss's head finally explodes into a fine mist.
Anyone else feel this way? Borderlands 1 and Prey both had the same problem for me. There's plenty of 'Flow' but no sense of 'Fiero'
On an unrelated note, all the characters are basically just less appealing versions of the ones in the first game.
Zero's dialogue sounds like it was written by a twelve year old boy who was under strict instructions to sound like he's a bad ass. His lines remind me of Half Life: Full Life Consequences. Maradon! fucked around with this message on 09-21-2012 at 12:24 AM.
Also a lot of the "issues" with Zer0's quips is that most of the time he's speaking in Haiku. Skaw fucked around with this message on 09-21-2012 at 04:41 AM.

Well the trap card line was funny first few times I heard it...
Dunno, I'. Liking Axton better than Roland..
Zair and I played through a boss on the main storyline that apparently had a timed element to it. They didn't let us know it was timed, but after a few minutes the event ended and we had to go to another area to make up for our 'loss'.
That actually solves my problem of there being no way to lose against bosses, just wish they had been clearer about it beforehand.
The gunplay is fun, and so far it feels like less guns drop from random thugs. (A very good thing) Anyone try it online yet?

Yeah, there's not some broken pieces in this game. Still having a blast though. And yeah, Axton isn't broken because you forget about his Turret. However when you do remember it after dying for the 3rd time in an area you do want to punch yourself. The Turret is also capable of getting you a Second Wind.

Yeah, there's not some broken pieces in this game.
The bonuses you get through badass tokens aren't really that powerful though. And they get some diminishing returns pretty quickly.

Goes down to 0.5% each after a while.
And you think flat percentile bonuses are weak? Get leveled up, get some bonuses and then turn them off. Is it huge? No. Is it notable? Yeah. Especially when you've boosted the damage for your weapon via Badass and then you're getting extra boosts from the class for damage and then bonuses from both again for Crit.
Why do you think Blizzard opted to drop the raw % boosts for a scalable point system? Because at the low end it's not a big deal. Upper end with larger numbers it gets worse. So far I'm up to almost a 5% bonus to gun damage alone. As far as I can tell there's no upper limit. If I had time and friends it's possible to blow these stats WAY out of "reasonable".
Once you cross 5.0% it drops to 0.4% per token spent, crossing 10% drops to 0.3% per token spent.
And it seems there are people out there with no lives who have managed to get around 100% on some of these.... o_O

Yes because that's exactly what I said.
I said they're not that powerful. And if you're playing the game normally, and not farming them by creating dozens of characters like a poopsocking moron, they aren't. In addition, the randomized list of bonuses when you go to select one keeps you from stacking one specific stat exclusively.

One good thing about BL2 is that unlike Roland, the turret doesn't make or break Axton at least. His passive skills are waaaaaay better than the ones Roland was given. Half the time I forget he even has the turret. Also a lot of the "issues" with Zer0's quips is that most of the time he's speaking in Haiku.
Axton's turret is a fucking beast if you spec for it though. Or at least it seems like it dishes out way more punishment than Roland's did. Also, I'm pretty sure his voice actor is the same guy who did the voice of the mage from Orcs Must Die! which is awesome.
Thing I like the best about the game though is that it seems like each character is less confined to specific gun choices. In BL1 there were certain gun types the characters really specialized in. Here it doesn't feel that way. Throw out turret as Axton, then back off and pick assholes off with a sniper rifle while they're busy trying to take out the turret that is mowing them down.

If your sniper rifle does 1125 damage, having it do 1293 damage probably won't let you kill things in fewer shots.
1293 before stacking in Crit damage mod for actually hitting the target intelligently and then other associated mods as well.
Gun shows a damage of 1100 (lv 20 purple) and I've headshot things in excess of 4k. So.. yeah.
In all seriousness, Zair and I are waiting to try the online version until after our first playthrough. Anyone know what online people are like generally?
Played some areas with a few friends, mostly me getting them some XP/Cash since I'm higher level. Overall not too bad.
Did hit one friend-list game on an invite, got offered 30mil creds by another player not on my friend list, left game.

No matter how you slice it you're still only gaining 15% from your badass perks.
Every little bit helps, but a little bit only helps a little bit. Half the time your 15% is just rounded down because you still aren't one-shotting things.
So.. yeah.
The writing for this game is incredibly hilarious and awesome. BL1 had zero personality. This game is bursting with it.
I played 1 and found it dreary and boring.
Then again I don't co-op because I have no friends.

It's Diablo: The FPS.
Totally dull for me, but very appealing for most other people.
I much prefer Endless Space (a small space empire type game sold on Steam) to "Boring Grey/Brown Shooter #472".
I just wish they hadn't killed the audio log function. There are times that some of the interesting bits get cut off by other audio segments that you didn't mean to trip.

Pretty much.
17 million damage Tediore gun toss.
Just had my friend hop on with is Zero to Mark For Death the Target Practice. 29 Million damage toss. Without Onslaught active too, so it can go a bit higher. Skaw fucked around with this message on 10-05-2012 at 05:12 PM.
