The Terraria server is still happening but is on the back burner due to other higher priority games.

You take a number of players and spawn them distributed evenly on a limited-size world --- sized so it's unlikely players would ever run into each other unless one of them is actively looking for someone else; but not so large that they can never find each other at all.
You cannot gain health through any means except by eating a golden apple (which regenerates 2 hearts) or by crafting healing potions (which you can't do until you've made a difficult trip to the Nether). Having a low hunger bar will still cause your health to decay, but having a full hunger bar won't cause it to regenerate.
The golden apple recipe is changed from requiring 8 gold nuggets to 8 gold ingots; and the blistering melon recipe (one of the components of healing potions) is changed from requiring a gold nugget to requiring a gold block.
When you die, you're out. Last man standing wins.
There's a few groups doing really good videos on YouTube of the game style, and it looks like a fun way to spend a few hours.
(An alternate approach is to do a cooperative game, where instead of the goal being to be the last one standing, the goal is to start from scratch and build up to kill the Ender Dragon; but still in "hardcore" mode, if you die, you're out for good.)

Actually, it's a lot like that, but you only have to contend with other players and the game itself. There's no one randomly spawning ghasts or dropping lava on you. I think there is actually a Hunger Games mod, but it's called something else. Survival games or something like that.

When my provider tries to charge my credit card, it gets denied. The automatic payment system has not changed in a year. Charges from all other companies go through. Visa, my bank, and Falcon Fraud Prevention services do not understand why the charge is being denied and give me a circular blame game with no party taking responsibility for actually denying the transaction from going through.
I'm setting up alternate payment methods but it may not be done quickly enough.
Note that when the server is moved over to Apocopaly LLC this should not happen. We are hiring have a well established firm handling our finances so they should be able to take care of crap like this for us (as well as an HR firm for similar reasons).

Technically you can make picks that have a high chance to harvest a block without getting hit for durability, as well as harvest the raw block itself (Like, harvest a grass block instead of dirt, stone instead of cobblestone). But yeah, not worth it in the long run, I think.

Silk Touch on a pick is nice for harvesting Diamond Blocks until you can get a Fortune pick to split them open for better chances on multiple diamonds.
And Unbreakable is a godsend in general... reduces the damage your tools take.

Don't forget you can repair items using runecraft as well - so if you have a badass magic item you can theoretically repair it before it gets destroyed.

mcMMO. Generally it makes your your character gets better as you do things (like mine). It also adds a couple extra features. One of them is blacksmithing.
If you right click an iron block and have iron in your inventory it will deplete an iron to repair the item you are holding. As your blacksmithing gets better your repairs get better.

If you have Shadow Copy running on your machine, just roll back the entire .minecraft directory (or wherever you placed it) to before Wednesday or whenever the update came down. Then make sure you refuse the update when you launch minecraft. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy.
