It can actually run current games with ease. What game(s) from the last, say, 18 months do I absolutely have to get?

Deus Ex: Human Revolution (!)

SWTOR is a lot of fun.

Also: Skyrim, The Witcher 2, Shogun: Total War and Fallout: New Vegas in case you have missed that.

I echo Skyrim, Deus Ex: HR and D3 (If you acquired a beta key). However, Terraria is pretty neat. Think of it like a 2-D Minecraft with a lot more depth, real NPCs, bosses, and stuff. Getting multi to work is sometimes a pain, but not necessary. And there's enough community support (Wiki, official forums that aren't entirely full of shite) to sink some good, long hours into it.

And Arkham City, if you're into batman. I think for this one he has an anger problem, but it was still enjoyable and enough like the first to warrant a runthrough.

Deus Ex was surprisingly good.
Shogun 2 is the best total war so far. But I haven't played any of the dlc/expansions or whatever that may have completely ruined the simplicity of unit selection.

The Assassins Creed games, depending if you've played any at all.

The latest one is a bit meh because it's just like an expansion to AC2 (just like the previous two games) but at least it's the last one we'll see mister Ezio Auditore da Firenze in. I doubt he can leap across rooftops with a zimmerframe.

I hope to host a Terraria server some time in February, software licensing permitting.

That would be kind of neat; there are some decent administrative mods that allow you to do useful things (Spawn bosses, items, etc), but I don't keep up on that side of things. I had a great character/map that was everything basically "done" until they added potions. Made a new map and got the potion thing figured out, and then a hardware failure made me lose the maps. :/

Don't play Assassin's Creed games recently after playing Batman. The fighting plays out similarly, except that Batman's is way better.

edit: Deus Ex and skyrimskyrimskyrim

I gave Deus Ex a try a while ago, and was underwhelmed by the lack of real options to play with.

There's a building full of bad guys. Deal with them however you want. Here's a gun with 12 bullets. Good luck!

Does it get better? I didn't feel like playing another MGS style sneaking game.

Also reccomending Skyrim.

You can easily shoot and kill all of the bad guys if you want to. No idea what your problem was.

Edit: Or use a vending machine.

I got Arkham City, Just Cause 2, and Battlefield 3 with my computer. Haven't played AC yet. But I can make the following observations:

1. Just Cause 2 is hella fun, but the PC controls are awful. I need to get an XBOX LOL controller or something.
2. I am so terrible at the modern FPS it's not even funny. Looks really pretty, though.

So I think I'll look to get Skyrim next. Maybe Shogun 2.

JC2 gets better if you rebind the grapple key to something more accessible. Tilde works, as does like a Mouse4 button or something.

And the difficulty is tuned for the xboxlol controller, so once you get into the game, the mouse controls will make it kinda easy until you ratchet the difficulty to something ridiculous. I remember enjoying it all the way through with defaults though.

It's nice to keep a wired XBox controller around for some PC ports, emulators, etc.

Anyone know of a good widget for monitoring CPU/GPU temp, fan speed, etc.?
